I was wondering what the rationale was behind making this a 'family friendly' site? It doesn't seem to have increased traffic, or upped the number of posts - and certainly hasn't increased the quality. Just like a radio show or a discussion down the pub, a football fans' forum needs passions as well it's hate figures and stirrers. The site lacks any real conflict - and anyone that does attempt to create any doesn't seem to last very long... so by it's very nature it doesn't encourage very much outside the mainstream. And who really wants to read page upon page of people agreeing on how good/bad we are.
No doubt the disgraceful QBlock Pete email affair has had something to do with this but I still enjoyed his attempts at justifying the unjustifiable as well Jones' egotistical, bipolar rants. I want mentalist weathermen, ray continually attempting to reinvent himself but always coming unstuck, ludicrous transfer rumours, Ched on the coach, etc. It was called "Fantasy Island" for good reason, as it was different, more colourful, more ludicrous than the other other sites. Now it is just mundane and just like all the others - and no one can be bothered to slate it anymore. The fantasists, Paladini apologists and all the other farkwits is what gave this site it's USP. Sure, it may have been problematic to moderate but surely that went with the territory. Now it really does very little to encourage people to post.
Actually, instead of boring everyone (including myself) with this, I could have just said that I agree with everything Merry and Jeff said.Last edited by MrSwakeley; 24-10-2013, 01:55 PM.

Forum has to be family friendly for the advertisers is the way it comes across from MYU. Google adsense/adwords is quite strict in what sites can be used to make advertising revenue through it and without that we wouldnt get the competition prizes and the monthly donations to charity...............

Captain Clunge, Eusebio13, Goddard, SirPieChucker, Benny and Nodge are the most missed IMO, but it's very easy to hark back to bygone times. Nostalgia can be quite deceptive as we can tend to only remember the good times, and there are still plenty of good and valued posters here today which plenty would miss if they left.

The thing I would disagree with though is the "family friendly" misconception. All that has ever been asked of anybody, despite them seemingly being unable to understand the bleeding obvious, is that if you want to disagree with someone, which is to be encouraged as it stimulates debate, people should be able to do so with a bit of style or originality, without having to simply resort to swearing or name calling.
Having to turn absolutely everything into a sexual reference is just childish beyond belief, isn't it? What does that offer a football forum exactly, other than the opportunity for those that do it to say their naughty words in public?
I actually used to like the conflict, the winding up of others who had different opinions. It made things fun and interesting. Never once have I, or would I advocate that we should all be aiming to agree with each other. That would be very boring indeed. The biggest problems arose when those who were the butt of some of the stick, couldn't handle it any longer. Best way is just to man up and get over it. It's only a football forum for crying out loud.
Certain content needs to be restricted due to advertising terms and conditions, but surely refraining from using certain words or posting up images of naked women is a small price to pay in order that some members can win a small prize, maybe a match ticket. And that the charities continue to receive their donations. Isn't it?
