I think Harry is spot on, little bit concerned about someone coming in for Rob Green on a pre-contract agreement though!

Hope not tying Green down to us doesnt come back to bite us in the arris. Good keepers are not easy to grow come by these days.

He's bang on - if we don't go up we will be captured by the Championship spending rules which are obviously tighter and more stringent than in the PL. I think we get a year's grace on the numbers as one of the relegated teams but next year's different. I'm sure if the players are told the facts and asked to be professional and focus on the job in hand, they will be at the front of the queue when negotiations occur in the summer.
I think the whole squad, and particularly players like those involved, have the Clubs interests at heart and will not cause problems in the circumstances i

Does any other club conduct their business in public as much as we do? Harry loves to give the media a quote. One minute it's all the loans not coming back, the next we won't be offering new contracts to some of our best performers yet. If keeping 8 consecutive clean sheets doesn't earn you a new contract as a keeper I don't know what does. Someone needs to tell Harry that sometimes it's ok to say no comment or I leave the contract negotiations up to others.

I do think it's most probably the best thing for the club but it's a double edged sword. You want these players to give you their all on the pitch and I wonder if this is the right motivation... These are players that have shown that they care about the club and loyalty goes both ways.

Fair point, but I do think he uses the media as a way of pre-emptively ending this discussion maybe. Sending out a message to agents and the like who probably got pound signs in their eyes because they think "we're going up".

At least we have a good backup for green if something goes wrong. Although he doesn't even seem to make the bench.

Cesar hasn't been fit at any point this season. Skipped pre-season cos we thought he was leaving and then he broke a few fingers in a training accident!

So if we don't get promoted we should still keep green next year whilst paying him 50kpw? No thanks like others have said the rules change for us next season. Players will not take a paycut if we don't go up so it is best to leave it till we know.

I wouldn't be to concerned if there was anybody willing to match Greens wages he'd already be gone , I think the club wouldn't to unhappy if another club were to come in for him

Eh? Why would the club want someone to come in for him? Rob Green has been a great player for us!

I didn't say the club would want someone to come in for him I said I don't think they would be to concerned if someone did ,he's here until January or may anyhow .
You say he's been great but in reality he's had little to do, yes when he's been called on he's handled it but he hasn't been under much pressure so far this season thanks to Dunne Onoura and Hill

So you're suggesting that we wouldn't be too fussed if we lost Green in January or May?..........Sorry mate but that's absolute tosh!

I would have thought most if not all the players signed before this summer are on good deals that wont be bettered elsewhere - so players would only leave if they are desperate to leave and if that is the case the club is probably better off without them - saw last year the damage from having player who didn't want to play for the club. Seems better to me having everyone focused on promotion and let the deals take care of themselves once that outcome is clear and the finances are known. Better chance to avoid repeating past mistakes. So far they are all pulling the right way and playing great which is the main thing.
