  • Favourite Promotion Season

Was chatting with a mate earlier about our promotions from the championship and Div 1.

Obviously both had their memories which will live long but I was struggling to decide which one I enjoyed most.

Hillsborough was a magical day but equally Cardiff on St Georges day and the drama around faurlingate gave the championship promotion extra satisfaction.

I think i'm tempted to say the championship promotion just about tips the balance. If I recall correctly when we came up from div 1 we played Notts County in Nottingham on boxing day lets hope this years boxing day visit to Nottingham is an omen!!

What about others views and memories??

Without a doubt the 82/3 season for me. I was a 15 year old whipper-snapper who loved every match of that season. The last three home games, Leeds, Fulham and Wolves had pitch invasions, of course I was not on the pitch myself
That was the era that everyone started dressing as a casual, proper clothes, proper away days, proper football, proper prices for tickets etc etc etc. Can't be beaten imo ever.

1967-68, yes there are some of us still breathing, vital away game at Ipswich, sold our 5,000 allocation and a Mick Leach last minute equaliser sent us into delirium. Then the final game at Villa and depending who you listen to, 15,000-20,000 r's massed on the Holte end. Little old QPR were in the top echelons of English football for the first time in their history
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
Into the arms I love the most

that fulham game, there was one of biggest ladbroke grove mobs i have ever seen.
everyone marched all the way to hammersmith, pringles, burberry brollys etc.
the grimsby away game, me and my pal found some cash that day, was absolutely gutted grimsby did not sell beer in the ground.
great fond memories. a lot older and wiser now!!!

Hillsborough was a great day but I don't think I have witnessed such bitter fans as the Wednesday ones that day. Agro before the game and after the game from the ground all the way back to the city centre train station

Took our 2nd division championship winners under Venables for granted tbh......Just thought that was where the QPR i knew should be.
The Warnock front runners was so satisfying and enjoyable in that we were the team who kept getting results sometimes late and had the the best player/showman in the division....Ruined for me though by the FA and other clubs managers/players/fans demanding we be docked points when they didn't know the facts.
Under Holloway that was great, and possibly our best. The club had sunk lower than i had ever seen them.I wondered whether we would actually ever been the club i knew ever again, and i doubted we would even get back to the second tier.
Starting the 1st season in division 2 with something like 7 players and signing all sorts of unknowns and oldies. Losing that playoff final in Cardiff the despair just went on ....Vauxhall motors.......but then the Hillsborough game.....and i was in tears.......Olly restored the pride to Queens Park Rangers, and imo some more demanding posters on here should maybe remember these times before complaining about
Chairman/managers or players not being good enough

I remember post Hillsborough, Olly was interviewed and asked how he would adapt the team to the Championship. I believe his reply was "We'll kick it longer and we'll kick it harder".

Top Man, but how times have changed!
