  • Harry - "Always Managing: My Autobiography"

In the first serialisation of the book that is set to rock football, Harry Redknapp hits out at The FA. The QPR boss accuses them of not being able to pick a decent England manager and names the players who had backed him for the Three Lions job. He also reveals that Brendan Rodgers was set to become his No 2 if he was appointed.

    Harry Redknapp's explosive book serialisation:

Redknapp - The FA? They don't have a clue! Rooney, Rio and Gerrard wanted me to manage England... and Brendan Rodgers was ready to be my No 2
    • The FA wouldn’t know a good manager if their lives depended on it
    • England are painful to watch, they just don’t have an identity
    • Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard both wanted me to get the job
    • Brendan Rodgers was ready to be my No 2. We’d get England passing again

I wouldn’t trust the FA to show me a good manager if their lives depended on it. How would they know? What clubs have they ever run? Who do they speak to who really knows the game?

So we're going to get daily instalments for a week; I just hope the controversial points he's going to make don't deflect from our preparations for the following games. We need to have Harry in focused mood and not having to fight battles in the press and in interviews that have nothing to do with his current job which is to keep his mind clear and sharp for the job in hand especially now that we've lost McClaren. We reall could have done without this at the moment.

I imagine this was all written a while ago and The Daily Fail, in their infinite wisdom, have decided now is the time to publish it with Harry currently riding high in the SBC.

A very interesting read nonetheless and I agree with every word he says.

The book is launched on Wednesday, which is why it's being serialised now rather than because we are riding high. The stuff today doesn't say anything the rest of us don't think - and although no one can say anything about it before it goes on sale, the couple of people I know that have advance viewing status assure me it is a great read and incredibly entertaining.

The England stuff is going to get more attention as we're in an international week. May be a coincidence.

I guess this is gonna be one of those kiss and tell type football autobiographies, pretty much made for serialisation on the likes of Daily Mail and the Sun.

Saying that Rooney, Gerrard and Ferdinand all wanted him is hardly an endearing endorsement. Player power has been an issue with England players in the past. McLaren was plenty chummy with the big dogs and look how that turned out. I couldn't care less who the supposed big players wanted as manager. They've let us down time and time again, and never lived up to their potential as the golden generation.

Harry would have been a decent stop gap manager for Euro 2012, but the FA were looking beyond that tournament and hoping that Hogdson could do something long-term. Unfortunately that hasn't exactly worked out.

I find it funny that he say's Brendan Rodgers would have got England passing. If that's the case why not appoint him as number 1 then! It's like Harry's saying "I would have been great for England cause Rodgers would have done all the work for me!" Also how long would Rodgers have wanted to stay a number 2? I couldn't see that partnership lasting long.

He doesn't though. He says "We’d get England passing again"

My thoughts exactly when I opened the Daily Mail this morning.
