And the rest Ted,I've been going to the R's for 62 seasons but thanks for the kind words and thoughts. In fact I'm starting to feel a bit of a woos with all these kind offers of support, but I do like to feel I give this bloke as good as I get,but naturally I've got to be a bit careful what with my heart and all that. Will keep you posted.

Just me that keeps seeing this thread and thinking it says "Bloke in front has farted again"
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Nice one Matty, trust you to think of that.I probably could handle that if thats all the bloke in front did.Perhaps we should have some baseball caps made up with "its not me its the bloke in front"when you drop one.

I'll be 70 next month Ted.Some of the players I can recollect from those early days are Harry Brown, Tony Ingham,Pat Woods,Bert Addinall,Ernie Shepherd,Cyril Hatton,George Powell,Bill Heath and pehaps my favourite at the time,a little inside forward Conway Smith.Lovely old days of the Third Division South when the players probably had full time jobs as well as plying their trade on the pitch. Not like now where Prem wages of 100 grand a week are common place. When you think back even to the magical 1966 season, players like our world cup heroes Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters had to work after retiring from football to make ends meet.Players of today don't realise how lucky they are.

brian bedford is the player i need to know about am i right in saying that he got most of his goals with his head,i cant remember him shooting at the gioal he was mors of a battling old center forward who used to jump up with the defenders and beat them to the ball

so how would you rate bedfords shooting ability

He's up there amongst the best Ted.He's 79 now and I was 16 when he signed for the R's in 1959.Before that he played for Bournemouth and famously got the winner(with his head) against Man.Utd in the FA Cup.He was just under 6ft tall but could leap like a salmon and as you suspected, scored most of his 161 goals for us in 258 games between 1959 and 1965.Hope this helps Ted.

PS Ted.I forgot you asked me how I rated his shooting ability.A bit like Sir Les,not always cleanly hit but invariably his shots found the net and we got the right end product - as approx a goal every 1.6 games would confirm.

                              but

but although bedford scored most of his goals with his head, what was his shooting capabilities likeand if he was on a one on one with a keeper did he usually score or did he blast it over

Oops! Sorry - I should have put "with his head" after 1965.
