It quite literally could take this lad half a season to find his feet, I don't think he is a player to grab the game by the scruff of the neck, I'm doubtful whether he'll make the grade at Spurs. Que the old cliches of he is young , has potential etc etc. A football fan should be able to turn up to a match and make an assessment of a player themselves.
You've made a fair assessment imo...not over the top negativity just plain how you saw it. I too have had my doubts about Carroll, but if he comes good we'll all be happy

Just looking to work out why your assessment of his pass completion was so badly wrong. It's hard to trust your other assessments at face value based on that.

Your early post was wildly inaccurate, but the last couple show a little improvement tbf. I might give you a chance in the next matches assessment of Carroll, but I'll be calling for your head if you are still so far off the ball.
I can't believe you actually bothered to typed all that out.

W12 gives a valid reason for Carrolls performance,it seems most throw about cliches about Carroll ,back your arguement up with a view of what you saw
Football played the Charlie Ferris way

must admit I haven't been massively impressed so far. sure, there is clearly a v gd footballer in there but as he is not ours I don't really care about that. A loan player needs to do it week in week out, otherwise we wd have persisted with Macheda a few years back for instance. In midfield we have an embarrassment of riches and the likes of Faurlin and Jenas have been marginalised. happy to give him a chance but he needs to start doing it fairly soon. we are winning so no one is being that critical. If he doesn't improve in the next five games or so my favoured team wd be ale and joey fairly deep with Hoilett, Krancjar and either Phillips or O'Neil further forward.

Wasn't at the game, so can't judge. I do have a pre-disposition to disagree with W12 based on his previous form, so maybe not giving him a fair shake in this case.

I would have been more accurate with Carroll's passing stats though tbh, which is pretty damning.

most of Carrolls completed passes was back to Green ,at least 5 times my heart was in my mouth were he was caught out, which could have been punished

I thought he had a horror 1st 15 minutes, giving the ball away poorly almost every time he touched it.
But after that he settled down and despite losing it a few times more, I thought he had a pretty good 2nd half.
Alot went through him as the central midfielder of 5. He never stopped looking for the ball and often tackled back when he did lose possession.
He was key to some pretty good moves too and for someone so young, that's pretty promising.

What what our alternative today ? Jenas - Would he have been THAT much better ? We could always recall Derry.

I think it's fair to say he's getting better with every game I've seen him play so far. HR has bigged him up and he knows what he's capable of.

Fair comments. As I say I am certainly not writing him off. I suppose I remember taking a certain young right back from Spurs who just blew us away and looked the finished article pretty much. This guy isn't at that level yet (imo). He certainly acts like he is a top player, guess the jury is out on whether he will become one.

I thought Carroll was pretty good in spells today still wouldn't want to see him in a 4 man midfield but he'll be ok in this system. As for Kranjcar he just looks like a player for who it can all be to easy at times some of his passing today was sublime. Lets hope his form continues and even improves with games

Agreed - He's young and slight. And just about holding his own in a successful team with some duanting names around him - Kranjcar, Barton, Dunne, Ekkotto.....I hope he continues to improve and starts to shine like Walker & townsend did.

I do wish he was one of ours though. Nice to see Ehmer come on. Anyone know if Hill is a concern for next week ?

Carroll is a very good player. Before he joined I had seen him play for the England U21's on a few occasions but I have also seen him play for Spuds reserves last season and in some youth development games before that. He has the potential to be a top player. He sees a pass and plays a pass, reads the game superbly well and covers lots of ground. Today I was a little disappointed with some of his passing because he was looking too long, he doesn't give it away when he gives and goes in small space moves. Each time I've seen him play for the U21's he's been a class above the rest because of his ability to do the simple stuff so well. I think maybe he's trying a little too hard at times but he will come good. What I find frustrating is how some people write players off so easily - particularly ones that clearly have the potential to go right to the top in the future.

he is on loan ,its not OUR potential , and right to the top with Spurs . i'm concerned what he does for us Now ,not for Spurs or England further down the line

Or maybe he's just out of his depth at a top championship side?
