  • Bosingwa vs Simpson - Stats from last season

I was looking for some OPTA stats of our backline (on a Saturday evening) and came across some stats involving Bosingwa and Simpson from last season. Simpson played 19 games while Bosingwa played 20 games. The stats are from the EPL and before the last game of the season.

    Tables borrowed from:

Never been a fan of stats, they fail to take into account the context of each pass, tackle, error etc. For example a player could lose the ball in the middle of the pitch with plenty of cover or he could lose it as the last man and give away a goal and it would still look the same on the stats.

I trust my judgement and Danny Simpson is twice the player that Boswinga is, whether that is down to skill or down to heart is up for debate!

Actually, I just re-read it..................guess I missed the section called "errors that lead to goal" at first glance! Doh

Also, the stats on completed passes includes the 5 yard pass, or the challenges won could include basic simple tackles when 2 or 3 defenders have blocked an attacker. What they dont takle into account are positioning and marking. A full back can mark a winger out of the game, but barely get a touch on the ball, but it would still be an impressive performance if the winger was an influential player like Bale, Walcott, Nani etc.

For us that would mean around 29k."

I remember Scott Parker having a 90something% pass-rate in a match once but they lost 3-0. Means nothing.
