  • Palace Chairman on the AJ failed transfer....

Seems we moved the goal posts on the deal ........This may or may not hae been to do with us not getting one of our targets ..

Can understand why AJ would have wanted to go back to Palace particuarly on a 3 year deal .......Similar to us wanting Cookie back (ufortunately it never worked out for Cookie).

To be fair to Steve Parrish , he's not slagging us off really ....just frustrated that he wanted to give the Palace fans back one of ther heroes nd it idn't work out .

He seems to have a very sensible approach to the logic of gettig players in to a newly promoted Prem league club ....As the last paragraph goes on to say . ..

I wish we had adopted the same approach this time last year as its a conundrum the first year back .....getting enough TOP players in and not causng disharmony amongst the players that have taken you up

Norwich , Swansea and now Southampton have all gone about it the right way .

15 new players in this season for palace, (and even missed out on an injury prone old favorite ). Remind you of anyone? Dead certs to go down for me.

Nothing sensible about handing AJ a three year deal!

You'd have to think that we had someone else lined up and it feel through, as otherwise why would you let him leave?

This just makes sense to me. On reflection we aren't aware of the whole picture yet.

Don't think we have seen the end of new arivals at LR yet by way of the Loan system.

I agree ...15 new players is a lot and I still think they'll go down however the difference is they are not paying out silly wages (as we were) to prima donnas with huge egos who believed they were better than what they were ( as we were) and their players ( I doubt ) will not be looking to jump ship ...should they go down and lead the club to try and offload the anvil of huge wages and dressing room fractions as we had to do .

Luckily for us our board/ manager has done an excellent job in turning the club around with the right players and turfed out the rotten apples that could have sent us in Portsmouths direction

Totally agree .....Far too injury prone and the wrong side of 32

I think Palace knew the deal, if we would have got our man, they would get AJ.

It didn't happen and therefore we couldn't sell.

Anyway, AJ is on good form for us and I'm sure he'll have a good season for us.

Quote from Redknapp says it all really:

“However, when it became apparent we weren’t going to be able to get sufficient cover in ourselves in that department before the deadline, we knew we couldn’t let Andy go.”

I did post all this last night. We only moved the goal posts on the AJ deal because the goal posts were moved on a deal we had lined up.

I'm glad AJ is staying but there was no way we'd let him go unless Harry got his man. Still might be a twist yet thou I'm told on a striker coming in.

Dave McIntyre says there was no-one in particular, just a number of possibles.
