Generally, when there is such a serious allegation the CPS get extensions to produce evidence. The current scenario must be that there is not enough evidence to press on or, as the defendant's will have now produced their own evidence, the CPS need time to follow up on it. The longer it goes without formal prosecution, the more likely that pleas of not guilty will be upheld.
