  • Watson Keen on Wigan Return

Latics midfielder Ben Watson is determined to ensure he won't be 'out of sight, out of mind' during his loan spell at Queens Park Rangers.

The 24-year-old joined the Championship outfit on a four-month loan deal just before the transfer window slammed shut last week.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was unable to guarantee him first-team football at the DW Stadium, and sanctioned the move to keep the player match-fit.

Watson, too, was more than happy to go out on loan, and says he aims to make good use of the period between now and the New Year to play himself back into Martinez's plans.

When asked if he still saw his long-term future at Wigan, Watson told the Evening Post: "Without a doubt.
"I would imagine that there'll be people from Wigan coming down to watch me probably every week to see how I'm doing, so it's down to me to put in some good performances.

"The move wasn't really a surprise to me.
"It wasn't that I wasn't in the gaffer's plans, but I knew he wanted me to go out on loan.

"He couldn't guarantee me games at the moment, which is fair enough.
"So instead of me sitting in the stands or sitting on the bench and playing 10 minutes here and there, it was best for me to get out and play in week in, week out."

Watson only arrived at Latics in January of this year, with then-boss Steve Bruce pipping a host of clubs to sign him from Crystal Palace.

After overcoming initial injury problems, the former England Under-21 international soon settled into the side and notched goals in successive games against Sunderland and Hull in March that all-but
secured Premier League status for another campaign.

In all, Watson made 10 appearances as Latics ended the season in 11th position, although the situation changed dramatically when Bruce
departed for Sunderland during the summer.

After the arrival of Martinez and new midfielders including Mohamed Diame, Hendry Thomas and Jordi Gomez, Watson temporarily found himself on the fringes.

But he believes that a spell back in his native London can only help his long-term Latics ambitions.
Watson added: "It's frustrating when you're out of the team, because all you want to do is play football.
"But the manager picks the team and it's down to him who plays.

"There's not really a lot you can do.
"You've just got to keep plugging away, keep working hard, keep doing what you're good at and hopefully you will eventually get your
    chance.
"I had options, but I'm looking forward to playing well for QPR.
"This is a club that is going places, and it's just a matter of finding some consistency in this league.

"If you can find some consistency in the Championship, you will be in and around the automatic promotion places for the Premier League.
"I've come here to prove myself again, to play games, to win games and to play well."

At the end of the day if Martinez doesnt fancy him he doesnt fancy him. Its up to Watson to prove he's good enough to play in the prem so it should benefit us. If he plays well and we end up shooting up the table im sure the club will do everything to try and keep him. I for one cant wait to see him in action for us.

A piece for the Wigan Evening Post is hardly going to say "I've had enough of black pudding, whippets, Northern Soul and tidying up after Titus Bramble. I'm going back to civilisation", is it?

I think he will probably end up signing permanently for us as well.

The fact that he turned down Birmingham (amongst others) shows that he is clearly keen on playing for us.

I just hope he doesn't end up getting recalled due to injuries etc, because I think he is going to do a terrific job for us - suppose we couldn't have expected him to say anything different to be honest.

Think Wigan are looking to bring in another midfielder this week. If it comes off, I don't think Watson will be hanging around up there. And, as Nodge says, it was an interview for the Wigan Evening Post.

"Salt", "Of", "Pinch". Arrange into a sentence.

He was after the lad at Swansea Bodde?

Bodde got crocked last November. Had his comeback game for Swans Stiffs last night. Lasted 83 mins. Might be back in for him later.

Think Martinez is trialing Cameroon international Modeste M'Bami.

So Martinez has said he wants him back. Watson has said he wants to go back. So here's the situation. We're not getting promoted this season. It's not going to happen. The best we can hope for is that he is with us until the end of the season. If Wigan want rid of him. We won't get him. Will the board pay his salary or Fee.

You can almost see it now

Paladini to Martinez: "I know you want to get rid of Watson. We want him. Would you consider letting us have him on a free transfer"

Martinez: "Free transfer!! free transfer!!! You make me sick. You can take your free transfer and shove it up your and the rest of the QPR boards' tight fisted a**e, you p*ss taking basterd."

Paladini to the press "We have put in a bid for Watson, We're just waiting for Wigan to get back to us. But it looks promising"

I am sure you post for a reaction.

End of the day, wish you would use a bit of common sense.

Wigan pay the majority of his wages, he is contracted by Wigan. if he gets injured (lets hope not), he has to go back to Wigan. Of course, he is going to say those things, if you had half a brain you would see that.

If I only had half a brain I would still make twice as much sense as you. If the board had half as much sense as the rest of the fans. We would have had him last season and also had a decent striker.

You don't have to like what I say. But whether you want to admit it or not. You know I'm right. Wake up and smell the coffee.
