It made sense to rest Barton and Dunne last night.Dunne is still getting to match fitness.Dunne and Barton would be considered as the senior pro's and as a poster has already mentioned, the only top team possibly to come in for him would be OM.I think if that happens Barton would probably go.On the flip side, maybe they were called into the office to discuss what/who is needed to strengthen the squad in the final week of transfers etc.

We also were missing O'Neil, Green, Hoillet, Henry from last night, but like most - I would have expected us to win.

I'm not reading anything into him being rested cos he's already cup tied for the tin pot cup amyway, I'm hoping the article is rubbish. Cos Barton is the type Ollie would go for I reckon. They need that sort of player, and so do we.

Some palace fan just tweeted him asking him if he was joining but he said it was not the right move for him and his family

His partner is from Liverpool and I suspect that the right move is relocating back to the area. Can see him going to Everton.

Didn't he offer himself to Everton for less money and free transfer just before the season started. That would be his dream move, but I don't think they are interested. Fingers crossed. That only leaves OM and they aint exactly rushing to buy him.

Even if they had the money - Ollie and Barton would end in tears sooner rather than later.

Barton tends to sniff out weaknesses in managers and play on them - becoming disruptive in the process. Just look at the way he worked with Warnock - who is a tough character in many respects! Ollie is no way near heavyweight enough.

At the end of the day, the axis of Harry, Joe Jordan, Bond and Schteve appears to keep him in his box and get the best out of him. Any less than that and you may as well give a monkey a machine gun..........

Barton has just replied in twitter to a Crystal Palace fan denying he would join them.

If he goes anywhere it will be Everton or Marseille. Can't see him wanting to join a team that will struggle in the PL...AGAIN

Lol. He's got more chance of getting to the moon on a motorbike than going to Everton. They won't let him within 100 yards of the place.

Not wanting to be ITK. But I was informed that OM gave a revised bid/package that was deemed "acceptable". Just how "acceptable" it is in the grand scheme of things now that he's enjoying his time at the Rangers is another matter.

If I was a betting man I'd put my few quid on him staying.......

                          My sentiments exactly.

Last night was awful and resembled much of last season's performances and showed that he was certainly missed and would be difficult to replace.

He has won this league before, along with Simpson Hill Faurlin and these players need to be kept. The squad is woefully short of numbers and quality.

I think he was rested yesterday in order to save him for Saturday and the rest of the games in the Championship. Whether he plays well or not, he gives his all no matter what game he is playing. If he had played yesterday, there was a chance he could get booked or sent off or got injured (though I don't think he is prone to injuries). That would have been worse than us losing the match. He has two years left on his contract, so he would want to find a team who is going to offer him 60-70 thousand a week for the next two years at least, by which time he will be 33. By the way I just noticed his birthday is on the last day of the transfer market (2nd September), perhaps they were discussing birthday celebrations yesterday.
