  • Townsend in england squad

So whether this stays on this part of the forum is up for you guys to decide but Andros has been called up to the England squad for the WC qualifiers. Personally think he deserves it as he has been on fire since January. Good luck to him

I don't think he's that great, was quite greedy but work rate was 100%.

Well done to him and hope he takes this chance.

You serious? He kept the ball because he was surrounded by inept footballers. That said, he hasn't done much at any level to warrant an England call up, yet.

The same could be said of Taarabt, he kept the ball because those around him weren't offering any movement ...

Townsend is a good player, he's very quick, and that helps as a winger. He won't however be destined for greatness, he has the pace to go past people but he doesn't have the skill that makes the difference between a good player and a great player.

          I agree 100%.

I always raise an eyebrow when people rave about him. He was the sort of player that did well, but was always playing for himself and was very, very greedy. It got to the point that he was shooting from ridiculous positions hoping for headlines and glory ratehr than pass the ball.

As for defending this and saying "He kept the ball because he was surrounded by inept footballers" sorry, that is just ridiculous. He was greedy on the ball, plain and simple.

As for an England call up, i think it's a bit of a farce really. He's barely played for Spurs until this last week.

To be fair, if Barton and Zamora can be called up for England, then anyone can ...

Barton had played well for at a guess nearly 200 top flight matches before a call up. Zamora had one great season and caught the eye and at the time rightfully got a call, but only due to others being unavailable i think.

That's nothign like Andros getting a call up now imo.

                Barton played well?

I guess that just shows how rubbish our football is when we can have an average player like Barton and people think he plays well and is good enough to be an international.

Ultimately, the England management realised Barton wasn't cut out for the top and ditched him.

Puts to bed the argument about needing to play in the PL to get noticed, doesn't it?

Bloke has hardly had a look in at Spurs, but an extended run of games with us where he had the opportunity to stand out a bit.

Hooper and Parker, take note. Enjoy this season's struggles.

But his games with us were in the Premiership!

Although I believe Bothroyd got into the England squad by playing in the Championship only.

                      Blimey. They were, weren't they?

How silly do I look now?

You could be forgiven considering some of the performances from last season probably weren't even worthy of League One!

Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
                          And many more mistakes

This is exactly what is wrong with the national team. Young players get fast tracked to the seniors without serving their "apprenticeship" in the U21s and for their respective clubs. Townsend has played around 15 PL games and 3 U21 games, is that enough to be deemed good enough for the national team? Is that even enough games to form an opinion on him?

If Townsend was Spanish, German, Dutch etc. would we even know who he is?
