Can't we just enjoy his current performances and hope for many more rather than try to make him out as some sort of hard done by hero?.........

No, not saying that at all. And not trying to make him out as a hard done by hero, either.

Just saying that the whole situation was handled very shabbily in my opinion, by Hughes and the club. By far the worst consequences of which, was the detriment to the football club in losing a vital player and as such, the relegation that followed.

in the scheme of things man city was nothing. he was already off technically so it could make no difference to the result. the red was a refs mistake...

its not about chances...welcome back capt JB...lets hope he stays and plays like he can
If he'd just walked off the pitch, he would have been given a ban, but he would still have been at the club all last season.

The red was not a mistake, at least not by the ref. Barton had already retaliated by the time the ref got there. Not sending Tevez off was a mistake though.

the ref stated in the inquiry that he would have sent tevez off and NOT joey. the ref stated he got it wrong

Out of interest, would that rule also apply to someone like Lee Hughes or Marlon King?

Captain JB? You must have woefully low standards of a Captain.

                the first point

                1. im interested in football for football not general morality..many players have gone on the pitch to cause injury and are not castigated ...JB doesn't.....
                2. I have personal friends who have done worse than Joey on a night out in younger days....as do hundreds of young men every weekend.....
                3. Its far from clear that his conviction incident were one sided and its clear that he is beasted by the press

Fair enough mate, as I said, each to their own. I could point out so many flaws in that but I think as you said, we need to agree to disagree on this one.

Really? Poor reffing if so. Barton clouted Tevez, and deserved the red too.

It was provoked, certainly, but still red card worthy.

Even so, it does not excuse the mindfart Joey suffered when he lost his temper and reacted violently, attacking someone from behind.

Most players will leave the pitch, and maybe swear at the ref a bit at worst when they get sent off.

Its old news now but I thought Joey's behaviour at Man City was refreshing....... The damage was done to our cause by the unfair sending off before he quite reasonably kicked off. We were down to ten men before he kicked the Argentine- who feigned injury- and then reasonably reacted to threats from Kompany and the vile Ballotelli (sp?). I actually applauded Joey that day.......

Were you watching the same game as I was? He kicked another player for no reason and then was faced down by the opposing team's captain (whom he didn't seem that inclined to mess with given Kompany is about twice his size). He shouldn't have gotten himself in that position in the first place but to embarrass the club like that as well as unforgivable.

Of course I was. He reacted to an injustice. The damage to our cause was done by the ref's poor decision, not Joey's response to that decision. If I had to criticise Joey it would be because he failed to kick Aguero hard enough to stop him from scoring his late goal and because I would have liked him to have knocked Balotelli's head off........

The fact that you agree with his behaviour has no relevance to the appropriateness of the reaction.

It was wrong, and received an appropriate punishment. It embarassed the club, who were left with having their most high profile player banned for very nearly a third of the season.

Let's not forget Joey's attempt to blame it on his teammates too.
