Not just aimed at you Fordy - but FFS. Over 30 is not always over the hill. Imagine the meltdown on here if we had a Premier League manager that thought a 40 year old Kevin Phillips was good enough to sign a 1 year extension to play in the PL.
Anyway, I've said this on various threads this summer and pretty much everyone that has read it has done one of those what he said things. Plans for the future are exactly that, the future. We are building from the ground up because we didn't have a youth policy, nor did we have a training facility or a board with the vision to start building one. Future stars don't just grow into professional footballers over night, it takes years. We do not have the benefit of dipping into our youth structure because before this regime we didn't have one. The little bit of talented youth we had was raped by big clubs. Not only that but this is a results business, I'm sure the pressure is on Harry to get back up this year - you cannot do that with untried youth and lower league speculative risk purchases. It takes a blend of youth and experience: exactly the way things are developing during this window. Simpson, Onouha, Yun, Hoilett, Austin, Faurlin are not old men and the others (around 30 odd years old) are not for the knackers yard yet.
What is happening this year is down to relegation, a squad full of mercenary turds that H had to rid us of and replacements to have a crack at getting up, a lack of any foundation to our Club due to the previous regime and circumstances of Football League wilderness for so many years/money in buckets/administration so on and so on.
I just don't get it - some will have you believe a magic wand can be waved and hey presto, a talented young squad, capable of immediate promotion players appears, all on 3-4 year deals for two grand a week.
Couldn't make it up could you?

    • It's a no brainer. How fans can moan is beyond belief
      Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
      And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

      • Woohoo big signing. Can't believe people are even moaning. What a joke. Harry took Pompey up with quite a few over 30s that he trusted in and worked hard for him. Scotty p captained England last year as well. Hope it goes through an don't get turned over again. Think this has developed since the England squad been named and he wasn't in it even with injuries??

If referring to me for saying passing is his weak point and he won't be providing killer balls to our strikers as someone suggested, then i stand by it. Nobody's saying he isnt a good player, but there are many attributes to a player and often the positives outweigh the negatives.

The fact he's played for England / Chelsea (barely by the way) / Spurs doesn't make him a good passer of a football.... he wasnt in any of those teams for his creativity was he.... The last England tournament his pasing was atrocious. He goes sideways and back over 5, 10, 20 yards fine, but far too often if he tries to do anything more with the ball he gifts posession away.

Sorry if that ruins your painting of him being so perfect at everything, but it's hardly a secret to most football fans.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, and he would obviously be a good signing.

            • It's well documented about his passing but if he is there to replace mbia park or granero then can't be any worse IMO. Put it this way Henry started last 2 games I'd say its a upgrade on him as Harry won't play these two together

Of course he's an upgrade on Henry. It's like comparing a lada with a Porsche, but you wouldn't buy a Porsche for it's miles per gallon would you...? Point is his passing may not be great as i mentioned and seemed to get slated for, but he offers a lot more to the party meaning it isn't that important. It's just that some seem to think you can't dare be critical of certain players for some reason.....

Think you are being a bit harsh Del - the people who have jumped to Parker's defence haven't really said he is the perfect or complete player. They have reacted to some proper bemusing troll like posts suggesting we shouldn't be pleased to sign a player of his quality. In all fairness though, your post makes it clear where you are coming from and for what it's worth, I kind of agree with your view on him.

To be expected.....all the common sense spoken on here emanates from Kent....................doesn't it?

                          • Little Qpr signing A player of Scotty p calibre is amazing. Some fans are very deluded and need to lower there expectations. Truth is would never have got Parker 10 years ago as playing for top clubs. Why you think we get these big names when there over 30??

                            • Scott Parker has the right attitude, good experience and is a better player than given credit for. Harry said there would be a couple of head turning signings. Parker and Defoe would be miles ahead of anyone else in this league.
Anyone questioning the signing of Parker need to question their own knowledge of the game or should I say, lack of!!
Parker will put in more graft than all the other losers we've had, put together.
Great signing, if it happens, bring it on.
