  • Napoli & Juventus join race to sign Zapata

Anyone remember the lad Henrique from Brazil, he was refused a work permit and wasn't allowed to join us under the special talent category because he hadn't played a full international cap and he hadn't played in Europe. Duvan Zapata hasn't played for his country or a team in Europe yet....

What people also are forgetting is that as soon as we get a work permit for him, a prem club will swoop in and gazump us

We are all painfully aware of this. I remain hopeful though.

The Brazilian lad wasn't even 1st choice at his club side and had only a handful of starts when we tried to get a work permit. As we know Zapata has been staring and scoring for his club so its slightly different from that point it must have been difficult last time to prove the lad was a special talent.

Zapata will be in the Columbia squad for the World Cup next summer, totally different case and one I think we will win.

That's why he'll sign pending work permit!

Isnt the point that he hasn't played full internationals to date not how many he could appear in next year ? I'm no expert but I think that is the stumbling block in the rules & regs

It's a given he'll be playing for Colombia in the World Cup. Hasn't got a full cap yet but he will have one in the very near future.

Doubt it. He'd still have to play 75% of their first team matches in order to complete part of his work permit requirements. Doubt he'd get that much football in the Premiership hence why Wet Spam pulled out. Unless someone like Hull or Palace come in for him. If we are applying for a Work Permit for him I doubt we'd leave ourselves in a position where by we could lose out at the final hurdle. I'd say the deal is done subject to the Work Permit being granted.

Exactly this. If it happens it will be deal, subject to permit. If we then fail to get him a permit, so be it. All done properly - the same way every one does when a permit is required, but cue the melt down on here if it doesn't happen. He who dares Rodney, he who dares.

West Ham could not guarantee number games he play in that was it so theu pulled out. We have done this so can't ( Hoping that I am right) see any problem with work permit.

The club are hoping to get a work permit on a special young talent , not on the amount of games played, so its still a risk as these don't usually get handed out.
