When Sir Les eas sold, QPR could have used some of the money to sign Nigel Martyn and Richard Shaw for a combined fee of around £2.5M and spent £750k on Niall Quinn.
Those three signings would have cost lessthan the money spent on Zelic (£1.2M) Hately £750k-1M), Osbourne (£1M), Sommner (£600k) and done far better (judging on how they performed at Leeds, Coventry and Sunderland) and I don't think QPR would have been anywhere near the bottom 6.
With Holloway, Barker and Wilkins already in midfield plus Sincliar and Impey on the wings why were Zelic and Osbourne even bought?
I seem to recall that Wilkins left partly over a disagreement about signig a replacement for the crocked Gallen.
Wilkins wanted to spend quite a lot of money on an African player described as the new Pele (who I think disappeared without trace) and this after he already wated 250k on Steve Slade.
Wright (who I also hate) decided no way, considering Wilkins' previous useless transfer deals.
