I think some people on here dont understand football and others just play follow the leader

Wilkins was one of the best players ever to play for QPR, people said he was finished when he came to us but he player arguably his best and most influential games for QPR. He was absolute quality.

Performance as manager are documented, personally I thought some of his signings where a bit iffy but he was under pressure to bring in high profile to replace les. He shouldnt have been sacked when he was, the combined efforts of more experienced managers hardly outshone him did they.
its New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworks

spent a good few bob to bring in Simon Osbourne then played himself in front of his "star" signing - the guy was way out of his depth - baring in mind we were a top 6 club at the time - sorry mate but as i said the guys management style was pure pony - his playing career can not be faulted - other than the fact he played for the sh1te

            Aargh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had Wilkins been left alone, we would have bounced straight back up. With or without Gallen.

I'd take Wilkins back over the likes of Magilton, De Canio, Sousa or Gregory any day of the week.

well maybe im a bit differant to you guys in as much as a five year old i used to have to drink ;lemonade and eat crisps in the locked car while my dad drank some bear in the general smutts
that was fifty years ago i would hear tales of clive clark who he was i had no idea
but after going to school i had to bow my head in shame as i told the other boys i was a qpr fan
there was only three qpr fans in my school the other were nearly all chelsea
                      it was a nightmare
then jim gregory gave me a dream but wilkins took away my dream.....

[QUOTE=Stedders;128175]I don't agree he was a sh1te manager... If Macca says that the dressing room were behind him, I believe that to be the case. Yes he made some mistakes, but what he had to overcome (loss of Les) was mammoth to be honest. And to be sacked after 3 games when 7 points out of 9 is pathetic.

                            QUOTE]

Ohhhhh controversy.....was it perhaps Sir Les' fault for jumping ship?

Ask Wilkins at some point. Would be enlightening.
I don't often agree with Dex, but he is right about Wilkins.

As for asking him? Well I did correspond by letter with him and he was came across as arrogant.

The Hateley deal is one incident I recall. Hateley had signed a deal, but it was subject to a medical - which had to wait a few weeks as he was still injured. I wrote to Wilkins asking him to call the deal off, as I thought he'd already wasted enough on Zelic (out injured), Osborne (couldn't even get a game) and Somner, who I thought was a poor keeper with no positional sense.

Wilkins replied to say that his signings were good and in time would prove to be hugely successful at QPR and that I should be more supportive.

                              Now let's recap.

Osborne was sold a few weeks later haing only played once (and scored).

Zelic left in January on a half price deal having made about 3 apps and

Somner was responsible for conceding so many soft goals that QPR drew games they should have won and lost those that should have been drawn.

Hateley was dreadful (when he was passed fit to play). He made his name for his heading ability, but his back injury made it difficult for him to jump more than 6 inches off the ground, making him almost totally ineffective.

Goodridge might have done a bit better, had he been selected to play more games, but Wilkins couldn't be bothered to even use him as a sub for the last 5 mins just to get his quota of games in. So he left on a free when his permit was revoked.

All in all money well spent by Wilkins, so I guess he was right about them all being successful signings:anger:

The real scandal was - or so the story goes... - that Hateley had been knee-capped in Glasgow after being caught with the wife of a gangster up there, which was why if you recall when he played for us he wasn't just slow but about ten miles off the pace. There is no evidence to suggest that Wilkins knew this, but it did smack massively of a mate doing another mate a favour for a last pay day. Of all the rubbish signings we have made - and we have made a few - then relative to cost that has to be the worst. Even Mike Sheron you cd see had ability, but Hateley, though a great player in his time, was way past it by the time we signed him. A shocking signing and reason enough why I wd never welcome Wilkins back to Loftus Rd, regardless of how good he was for us as a player.
