Whilst booing would have been unproductive, it would at least have made more sense than the rapturous response he actually got....
Joey Barton may not be popular with many football fans, but I think a lot will agree that he usually works and gees up his teammates.
he got sent off twice in his 1st season with QPR;
The Norwich red card was down to play acting from Bradley Johnson and the ref, who was 10 metres away with an unobstructive view, saw fit to play on. It was only after discussing with his assistant, who saw nothing at the time worth flagging for, that he decided to issue the red card.
The Man City one was in retaliation to Tevez hitting him, which the ref admitted had he seen it, he would have sent him off too. No excuse for hitting Aguero, but the bit with Kompany, again was in retaliation to gestures aimed at Barton.

Surely the reception he got spurred him on to perform which he did admirably. What if we'd booed him & lost? As I said before the past is gone lets move on. We knew what we were getting in Barton the person so shouldn't be a shock to any of us.
When it turns out that no-one is prepared to pay him enough money (odd considering his claims it wasn't about the money), he has a change of heart and decides he will do us the honour of playing for us.
And he gets a heroes welcome back into the fold on opening day? While not hoping for or expecting boos (as you say that would be unproductive as it always is), I really didn't expect the response he got. He was equally surprised by all accounts.
As I've always said, I'd rather not have him at the club, but hope he behaves and applies himself from now on.

And hopefully, because he is no longer the big fish with the armband, with quite a few quality seasoned pro's around him, he may keep a lid on the vast majority of his narcissistic side and deliver the goods on the pitch......

He got a great reception against Swfc which I was quite shocked about but was also very pleased. If there had been booing first game of the season against a player in one of our shirts that would of been pathetic, embarrassing & detrimental to our cause.

Joey Barton, however, is ready to stay at QPR. The 30-year-old midfielder has been waiting for Marseille to resume talks over a move to France but the deal has stalled. Barton said: 'I've been in Marseille for a year and enjoyed it but I have great relationship with the fans here and am happy to stay and help QPR get promotion.'

But please....be under no illusion that joey is anything other than a total c*** who not only doesn't give a flying f*** about our beloved club BUT would go anywhere else if they matched his money.
If he plays well in the hoops.... I will be delighted but please cut down on all the ball sucking lads.....it's embarrassing.

Johnson late tackled JB. the ref looked and waved play on cos JB stayed on his feet and kept the ball, a second Norwich player slid in 2 secs later, JB stopped and appealed, the ref blew and was about to deal with
an obvious second foul. Johnson started rubbing his face and the linesman interrupted the ref dealing with Norwich. he assumed joey had spat into johnsons face, he conferred with the ref and JB got red carded. the replay
proved that JB hadn't done anything.
for the man city incident, at the tribunal, the ref said, if he had seen the incident as shown by video evidence, he would have sent Tevez off, not JB
