It's a catch 22 and the question is How good is he ? If we buy him for £7m he is ours and if he developes over the next 3 years and is worth £12m then the profit is ours, but if we buy him or £3m/4 m Levy will insist on a 40% on clause like he did with Adel so it's always in the back of the boards mind if its worth selling a player later on as we will not get much out of it.

Fingers crossed. Slightly surprised by that fee, personally would have thought he would be less. With the fact he's 32, the amount of wages he will probably want and only having one year left on his contract..... But then again we have spent alot more on alot worse players!!

True that. Also if you run one of the richest clubs around you are in a position to get good deals - not like he is getting good deals while running Grimsby Town !!

As for £7m like a lot of deals it depends how it is structured. Could be £4m up front + £1m if promoted + £1m per year if he plays 20+ games over 2 years blah blah blah

Advantage with Townsend is that we know he delivers as he did it before in far more difficult circumstances than will be there this year.

Where did you hear this mate?
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

That's a lot more than we should be paying.

A midfielder though, it's definitely where we're short on numbers......

£7m for 12 decent games? Cannot believe there is an ounce of truth in this at all

I remember when a few people on here turned up their noses at signing Parker for £5 million two seasons a go. £3.5 million is a lot for a player with pretty much zero resale opportunity. Not saying I wouldn't want him here, but I'm surprised by the fee.

He might have had 12 good games for us but he has allso had an excelent pre season .
What did we pay for Hoilet ? And some creamed over one good game last saturday where he held on to the ball very well but hung on to it too long , Townsend is more possertive therefore that makes him more creative than Hoilet , to get him we will have go to 5m and hope if it comes off he would be a bargain in comparisom to Hoilet

Think we paid £4 mill compensation for hoilett. Who was a first team regular for blackburn and had played over 70 games in the prem by 22. In comparison townsend has played less than 20 games in the prem by the same age. So Townsend is more of an unknown quantity. Also dont agree with townsend being more creative then hoilett.

According to transfermarkt.com, he is worth 875k. Add on that he is english so double that and 7mil is waaaay too much

There is a massive difference between being a 1st team regular for Blackburn with 70 apps than being a Spurs undestudy to G Bale with about 20 apps , but I do take your point about him being more of an unknown quantity but we would have to trust H on that one
