  • Austin delighted to get off the mark on full R’s debut

CHARLIE Austin readily acknowledged his first goal in QPR colours was down to being in the ‘right place at the right time.’

The R’s new number nine took just 99 seconds to open his account on his full Rangers debut, as Harry Redknapp’s men eased to a 2-0 victory against Exeter City in the Capital One Cup.

A delighted Austin told www.qpr.co.uk: “I didn’t know too much about it if I’m honest.

He got lucky with that goal, but once he gets the first proper goal the rest will follow.

That will still count as his first proper goal

          Austin Said:

“Playing and training with top class players like Bobby and AJ every day will hopefully take me onto a new level.

They’ve both been fantastic to me since I arrived – we’re working on a lot of different things and the early signs are positive that the three of us will get goals for QPR.”

Rather than lucky, I think it was down to instinct.

The way he got that goal reminds me of Clive Allen. Hopefully, QPR finally have another striker who will be lively and alert enough to get on the end of loose balls in the area the way Allen did.

Correct, and you make your own luck too:

A delighted Austin told www.qpr.co.uk: “I didn’t know too much about it if I’m honest. The ball broke out to JJ on the edge of the box and I managed to stick a leg out – it was a striker’s instinct."

As Gary Player once said: "The harder you practice, the luckier you get."

remember Clive Allen's FA Cup Semi Final winner? that was pure instinct too and how many goals did he score from inside the 6 yard box reacting to flick ons from players like Hazell and Wicks?

It's no wonder Austin has scored the amount of goals he has. Luck? Luck has nothing to do with it.
