First of all the positives, great chances at the start and we could and probably should have been 3 or 4-0 up. AJ and Hoilett especially were wasteful.
We played like we did in the Prem basically - not much composure, couldnt take our chances and struggled to keep the ball a lot of the time. The only difference is the quality of opposition was far far inferior - that chance for them at the start of the 2nd for example, any Prem team would have buried it and that would have been that. We were very lucky for their 2nd penalty appeal, 1st one wasnt though.
Saying that, the team we put out hasnt had much of a pre season together - Barton, Austin, Faurlin, Henry, so I'm pleased that we battled through for the win.
The majority of our games this season will be like this really apart from against the so called bigger teams. We must must MUST take our chances, as right now we seem shaky and vulnerable to the long ball (we will get that a lot this season).
Still a pleasing start, hope Barton stays and looking forward to seeing how Austin integrates into the team. I think a month from now will give us a much clearer picture about our first XI and how the season in general will pan out.
I completely understand why Harry is signing the likes of Henry and looking at O'Neil and Baird. Granero and Mbia would have been overrun and spent half the time on the floor had they played. Good to see some fight in the middle.
Special props to SWP for making me laugh at the end, where he tried to dribble the ball into the corner but instead dribbled it out of play instead. Quality control!
