Fans asked for TF and board to learn from their mistakes and we appear to have done so. It might result in deals not getting closed but that's part and parcel of ensuring you get the best deal for the club.

We need a striker but that to me don't mean we should pay over the odds. A fair price with add ons for appearance, given his alleged condition, is the way to structure this deal in my book
        spot on.

West Acton and 1971 are spot on. Who would be a football chairman with moany fans like ours? I wonder what our fans would say if, for example, they were considering buying a house and their other halves said to them "stop all this messing around with negotiations and surveys and searches etc, just give the seller what he wants". Oh, and then once you did that the same spouse would turn round and say "why the hell did you do that? You were stitched up because you were such a soft touch. You really ought to be more prudent." Oh, and then doing exactly the same thing with the next house purchase...

Burnley have rejected QPR's £3 million plus £1.5 million in add-ons for Charlie Austin. They want the £4.5 million upfront. #QPR #Burnley

If Austin scores a couple on the weekend, his price will shoot up anyway. Best to get sorted now if we are interested.

What, so just give exactly the same price his club were demanding before he failed a medical?

I know fans are growing impatient but I'm fairly relaxed about this. The board has already shown it was prepared to spend £5m on a striker. There can't be too many Championship clubs able to compete at that financial level (think of us prior to the first take over). No Championship club can compete with any premier league club for a player but provided there is no interest from the Prem in Austin and provided we want him and provided there are no medical complications I can't see anyone else being able to compete for him. But far prefer the board to negotiate hard rather than cave in to crazy demands like we did for Barton, SWP etc.

I agree with that. I fear we will end up woth some foreign bloke who none of us has ever heard of. £4.5 mil, doesnt seem too bad considering the money that Hooper went for and Rhodes went for last year. A proven championship goalscorer is worth its weight in gold.

I think Hull only offered £4.5m and that was before he failed the medical. I am sure that his value had now gone down.

Have to agree with others who don't want to see us taken for a ride.

If £3m plus £1.5m in add ons is correct, then they will get their £4.5m unless his fitness is as reliable as that of our other strikers.

Way too much money. Think we are seeing a gradual lowering of transfer fees everywhere except in the elite divisions.

Yes I agree. I think we may be at a watershed moment where the financial sustainablity of the clubs is the driving force. One can but hope!

Haha who is this pretender? Like clubs pay the full value up front! Especially when the lad has just failed a medical!

It was reported in the Lancashire Post that we're interested but no bid has been made yet.
