Build from the back? I don't think they know about 'the front' based on our attacking threat over the last two seasons. Even in our promotion season we didn't really have a striker. You get out of the championship with a quality attack because defences aren't all that at the second tier. If our forwards are better than your defenders we'll win even if it's 6-5.

There’s no question that our defence is shaping up nicely and seems, on paper at least, to be very solid. Simpson was an excellent signing and, providing he can stay fit, Dunne will be decent as well; he’s dominant in the air and will brush most Championship strikers aside with ease. Hill and Onuoha are both excellent Championship defenders, whilst Suk-Young has looked promising in the pre-season matches. Generally, the squad is not lacking in physical strength and aggression. We're defensively resilient. However, in order to mount a promotion challenge one has to possess firepower, as well as a degree of creativity, flair and skill. Our title-winning team, for instance, blended Hill, Gorkss and Derry's brawn with Faurlin, Taarabt and Routledge’s flair. Zamora and Johnson will not score enough goals for a number of reasons: Zamora just isn’t the player he was four or five years ago (he runs around almost like an old man) and Johnson is very likely to be side-lined through injury (whatever anybody says about his footballing ability). Our wingers, Hoilett and SWP, both had terrible Premiership campaigns and one has to wonder whether their confidence has taken a knock. The average age of the squad is also somewhat concerning given the notorious intensity of the Football League’s fixture schedule. Of course, there is still time to make a few more additions before the season starts, but I do feel we have left things somewhat late in this respect. Scoring just two goals in the pre-season friendlies serves to illustrate the desperate need for attacking talent.
As for Karl Henry, I will obviously get behind the lad and I sincerely hope that he does well. I can’t help having reservations, however, about his temperament and footballing ability. I have seen him play on numerous occasions and have friends who are Wolves season-ticket holders. They do not speak highly of him. I am not convinced he is much better than the current central midfielders at the club. Hopefully I am proved wrong and he goes on to become a fan favourite in the Shaun Derry mould.
I feel the concerns I have raised are reasonable ones. I am certainly not being negative for the sake of it; I’m simply expressing an opinion on the squad as I see it, which I have attempted to justify in detail. There does seem to be a recent trend on this message board which involves branding anyone who dares to criticise any aspect of the club’s hierarchy as a ‘moaner’ or ‘negative’, which in my view stifles debate in a manner reminiscent of a totalitarian regime. There is sometimes confusion over the terms ‘want’ and ‘think’ on this message board. We all ‘want’ QPR and individual players to succeed, but not all of us necessarily ‘think’ that will happen.

we didn't think the older players we got before were good enough either. hogan, hoilett, jenas, swp and adel will have something to prove and most teams would love them-bar the wages. all big players for us this season. still have m'bia, diakate, granero etc to either shift and create money and positions or they stay.3/4 out and the same in. happy days.PRIDE OF LONDON.

Cannot disagree more with the OP. Not because of the opinion about building from the back because I agree with that, but for slating those who have a different view than he does.
Everyone's entitled to their view on here, whether others agree or not. You win your argument by putting across your view point in a constructive manner, not by silly name calling. Just because some people would like to see things done differently why should that make them a drama queen?
I'm sorry, but I don't think anyone should have to conform to W12's view just because he says something is so. He's not the oracle, and people are free to hold whatever opinions they like.Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

I suppose one point is, was this team in need of a complete overhaul, whereby younger and hungrier British players were to make up the core that evolves with a plan of getting back up within 2 to 3 yrs and therefore being in better shape if we do return to the prem.
Arry at the end of the season plus many supporters were crying out for a complete change.
What we have found ourselves with are three new signings, which I agree with the OP are good signings but they aren't signings that give great confidence for the future. If we do return to the prem next season, we are simply delaying the fateful day of getting in almost a whole new team to compete properly, save for Simpson the other two wont bring anything with them to the prem.
It's a difficult situation but I agree delusion of grandeur has seemed to embedded itself with parts of our fanbase....still think a 80k stadium would be ideal.

It all depends on how many we shift out it's'not just this window that counts there will be another window in january , we have all said our down fall was trying to build a side in one window if we we only get the job 60 or 70% done and go up and come down again would it be so terrible we get the money , as long we carry on buildingLast edited by dogsrrs; 24-07-2013, 07:35 AM.

This site is full of drama queens and clueless kids. We've done very good business so far, most of you don't seem to see that. Harry brought in players who can communicate with one another, have leadership qualitiesand can do a job.
2 years in the Premier League and you think we are gonna buy the league. Some of you have become everything you claimed you once hated in football fans who support big teams.
"I want a new stadium, I want Hooper, I want Austin, where's our new training ground, why have we not got an adidas kit yet, i want i want i want....etc etc"
Its embarassing reading this forum at times.

Yes you build it from the back but when you have two injury prone strikers above 30 (Zamora and Johnson), we should expect signing striker is a priority. I don't expect us to sign Austin and Hooper together, but there are other good and sensible strikers I am hopeful we bring one of them: Rickie Lambert, Billy Sharp, Martin Waghorn, Matt Fryatt or Luciano Becchio.Last edited by Yousef; 24-07-2013, 08:56 AM.QPR fan since1987
