£1m Karl Henry is sort of leader QPR need, claims Harry Redknapp

Queens Park Rangers hope to complete the £1million signing of Wolves captain Karl Henry today, writes Simon Johnson.

Henry (above) is in London for a medical and Harry Redknapp believes the 30‑year-old can play a major role in helping Rangers win promotion back to the Premier League.

“I’ve always liked Karl,” said the QPR manager. “He’s a good sort, he’s a competitor. He looks like he wants to win.

“He’s captain of Wolves and whenever I came up against him he always had that attitude about him that he’s very determined. I think he is what we need at the club.

“He’s a bit of a leader on the pitch and he will be a big asset for us. He is having a medical and it should go through today.”

Redknapp is keen to make more signings before QPR kick off the season against Sheffield Wednesday on August 3 and is still in talks with Celtic over striker Gary Hooper.

Rangers had a £4.5million offer rejected last week but Redknapp says an agreement is not “far away”. Hooper has been included in Celtic’s squad for their Champions League qualifier against Cliftonville tonight.

Redknapp is also believed to be looking at Burnley striker Charlie Austin, despite the forward seeing a move to Hull fall through earlier this month after failing a medical.

Rangers will fund their spending by selling some players, with Nottingham Forest closing in on a deal for striker Jamie Mackie.

Right-back Jose Bosingwa has travelled to Turkey to complete a move to Trabzonspor. The former Chelsea defender is set to sign a two-year deal.

In your opinion, but not, obviously, in HR's or the board's.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

supporters are generally good judges of players, the fact Wolves fans constantly barracked Henry leaves me a tad nervous with this signing, Dunne and Henry hardly likely to get a late surge in season ticket sales
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble

Everyone said similar when we signed Furlong.

I'd much rather see him giving 100% than someone who's supposed to be brilliant giving nothing.

Let's trust Harry, let's give Karl a chance and you never know... you might even grow to like him.

I remember the same conversations going on when Neil Warnock signed Shaun Derry and Clint Hill. Both of these players are better than those two and they've both been mustard for us.
