  • Petition, BRING BACK MEL JOHNSON

Was chief scout here four years ago, found many gems for QPR before moving to Spurs, including ****tu and Lee Cook, has now left them and a free agent.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bit of a campaign has started to bring excellent scout Mel Johnson back to QPR as he's been let go by Redknapp at Spurs.
Would appreciate any signatures for the petition or anyone who fancies joining the Facebook group.

This is not my petition by the way, its on nearly all boards, started on LFW.

Mel Johnson is probably leaving Spurs, and has far more scouting credibility than GP. Sign him up.

Really we should get him back he was outstanding.

On his QPR World interview he seemed to have a genuine affection for the club

Why did he leave us in the first place? Was it for the £££££s?

I met Mel on a few occasions and he seemed a genuinely nice fella but would it be a good thing him coming back?

If it meant not signing the likes of Agyemang, Alberti, Parejo, Ukah, Tchakounte, Di Carmine, Borrowdale, Kus, Helguson etc etc then 100% yes but can't see someone doing themselves out of a job somehow....

It would be brilliant if we could get him back. But it would mean someone else falling on their sword for the sake of QPR-but that is just not going to happen is it?

If Mel left around the time Gregory came in as manager, and the four year timing mentioned above sounds likely, the reason he was no longer with us is because the whole scouting team were fired. A mate of mine was part of the team of scouts.

This is the original request, from LFW, hope Clive dont mind me posting this.

Msg for Clive (and everyone) re: former scout Mel Johnson

Message for Clive, but would be interested in everyone's thoughts, really.

I just had a long conversation with Mel Johnson who was recently 'released' by Spurs (can't go into details with regards to what happened there as it's still ongoing). We all know two things:

                              1. We don't have a proper scouting network at the moment.
                              2. Mel Johnson was the best scout we've had for some time.

Mel did not ask me to do this but I wonder how much interest there might be with fans of getting a few signatures together and sending them to Magilton, Gorman, Amit and Paladini expressing our opinion that we should be snapping Mel up before someone else does.

As Clive has said before, Mel was responsible for some of the best players we've had over the last few years. Until he came, we had an awful record in having players who other teams wanted, but his players not only gave us the basis of a great team, some were also sold for very decent fees - fees that were vital to the club remaining in existence. Mel more than paid for his salary in other words!

He was responsible for bringing us Cookie, Rowlands and Danny ****tu amongst others, and he also spotted Adel Tarrabt at under 17 level in the south of France (in fact, he describes him as a 'typical player QPR fans would love' and encouraged Redknapp to loan him to us).

We need a good Chief Scout. Mel now has four and a half years of worldwide scouting behind him thanks to his time at Spurs. Tottenham have just decided to throw that away. We wouldn't just be employing a scout, we'd be getting four and a half years of Premier League scouting. I was talking to him while watching Brentford v Charlton, and he knew about every single player on the pitch, it was quite amazing.

He loved his time at Rangers and if it hadn't been such a fantastic opportunity, he never would have left. I'm sure he would love to come back.

I'm happy to write to the club myself, but maybe a sheaf of signatures would carry a bit more weight. Happy to set up an online thing if others don't think this is OTT and if people are interested in taking part. Would be good to get this spread to other MBs as well if the enthusiasm is there.

                              Appreciate any thoughts.
