Joon i think you are talking about the Park that was at Manchester United because the one that played 20 games for QPR has been awful. You can say what you like but Ferguson got rid of Park at the right time just as he has done with countless other players. A player that has limited ability but known for workrate is useless once an injury affects that workrate.

I think you're underestimating Park's abilities there, vblock. Of course, Park never had the glittering talent of many of his former teammates, it was Manchester United after all. Against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs, then Nani, Valencia and Young, Park did not have more natural talent than any of them. However, he had enough talent and enough of a footballing brain to maximize what talent he did have, and of course his workrate was one of his most important tools, but it was not his only ability.
All in all I think that Park is beyond his best due to his deteriorating knee, but I think he still has enough juice in those legs for a season or two, which may prove useful for us this season. I may be wrong, but none of us really know the exact condition of his legs, and if I'm right, it'll be good for the team.

Tied with Taarabt for season total of 4 assists. Of course, Taarabt played 35 games and had 5 goals to show for it. In minutes Taarabt probably got twice the playing time and the team was played around him. Park was not played in an attacking role by MH nor HR, he was positioned at CM. I'm not questioning their decision to do so, but since Park was not played on the wing, it is not reasonable to expect more end product from Park as a CM.
In contrast, Mackie had 2 goals and 1 assist in 38 games. Granero had 1 goal and 2 assists in 31 games. SWP 2 goals and 1 assist in 22 games. Jenas 3 goals in 19 games.
I think this is like the third time I've had to point this stat out. Shows just how much Park has been ripped on to make you guys think he had only 1 assist in the entire season.

It's about roots and identity.

Originally posted by Joon View PostWell, you are certainly entitled to your opinion of Park, but I doubt that those "Korean footballers" share your sentiments.
I think you are overcompensating a little. Just as we should not blindly praise Park due to our shared ethnicity, neither should we feel the need to criticize him more for it.
For most people, one bad season after a dozen good ones does not turn a player into an embarrassment. Indisputably, Park has had an exceptional career in football at the club and international level for over a decade. In fact, Park is the is the most successful Korean footballer in decades (since Cha Boom), which is a source of pride for Korean football fans and players alike. He owes this accomplishment to a little bit of talent, and a lot of heart and professionalism.
Park's goal this season is to help the club bounce back up to the PL, and whether he will be able to perform as needed is yet to be seen, but there is no doubt that he will give it his best effort. If he fails to perform despite his best effort, I would be disappointed but not embarrassed, and neither should you.
As for Yun, time will tell.
I'm afraid that Park is no longer up to top flight football, he hasn't just had on bad season, he is finished. Might be a tough one for the Korean contingent to swallow but those are the facts. I'm assuming that we have kept hold of him either because nobody wanted him (or wanted to match what we are paying him) or Fernandes needs to keep him for marketing and sponsorship reasons!
