QPR chief executive Philip Beard has confirmed that the club are close to signing Republic of Ireland defender Richard Dunne on a Bosman free transfer.

The centre-back, 33, was recently released by Aston Villa and did not play a single league game last season because of an Achilles injury.

Dunne, who has also had spells at Manchester City and Everton, is one of several players Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is keen to add to his squad before the start of the new campaign.

“He’s not signed yet but he’s a player that Harry would like to bring to the club,” said Beard.

“We’re looking at a number of players. The main thing is that they want to play for the club and are ready for the Championship, which is very different to the Premier League.”

Well he's not coming here to play every game, I think his role will be similar to Nelsons only to be played when needed.

I would say overall he will probably feature 10 games total and on a pay as you play deal.

Hope he proves me wrong but not a good signing in my eyes. Slow, been injured for a long time and old. People keep comparing him to Nelson. Nelson has always been a good player. Dunne is a well known donkey. But as i say, hope he proves me and other doubters wrong.
