What with Fernandes only managing to spend the odd day over here to concentrate on us and leaving that numpty Phil Beard in charge wouldnt it make sense to have a football bloke working between the manager and the board? Someone who can be a buffer and give advice if they think the manager is being unreasonable with requests? i.e. asking for players that he used to manage that are getting on a bit and want big wages? Giving the manager 100% leeway hasnt worked out well for Fernandes in the past and Beard cant give advice on football matters (or much of anything if you ask me). Just surely makes sense that someone such as say Gerry Francis for an example could fill the gap between manager and absent Chairman. Even if Tony can only be reached by phone while working on one of his other projects/hobbies at least it might stop him being taken for a ride.

If we went that route I would not be against investing in someone like David Dein who knows his stuff or Warnock who I reckon it would appeal too. As I said some time ago if were thinking out the box and want to give some a break to someone who is intelligent and has connections to the club I would go Clarke Carlise I think he has the potential ro be a top DoF

Apart from that Fernandes isnt here very much and he leaves Beard in charge and he could certainly do with some help. Managers tend to go back for players they have managed before and sometimes buying lets say the more "mature" players can be a bit of a risk if given the contract that they want. Fernandes cant afford to have his trousers pulled down again and neither can the club. Looks like we are stuck with the numptys up top in the forseeable future so i suggest a "safety net" in an experienced football man with a bit more football knowledge than the two mugs who seem to be there to be walked over time and time again.
don't know whether player recruitment would go down too well, and anyway your just swapping one man's opinion for another

Neil Warnock said he'd take it
The board offered him a similar role when he left but obviously he didnt think it was right as Hughes replaced him
Warnock is perfectUnder Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
And many more mistakes
LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

to me accountability is important. people should have responsibility for their own actions.
if a dof buys a lot of bad players who takes the blame if the team loses?
it is the manager who takes the heat - could end up going through half a dozen managers before deciding that it was the dof who was at fault. then you are back to where you started.

We're not a big enough club to have a director of football. TF is spending much less time with F1 and once he has finished with the Asian Apprentice, I've a feeling he will spend more time in the UK. Not sure what Amit is doing now but wasn't he something like director of football.
