If an English guy supports only the clubs that David Beckham currently plays for would he be a welcome addition to a clubs fanbase? i would think not.Also..not every fan wants QPR to become a global brand and have a stadium full of plastics and tourists. We have been taking the **** out of Foolham for years for the same thing (not the global brand part :-) ).
Yes, I think we have to welcome the temporary hero worship kind of fan too. They bring some much needed coin to the club while they support that transient hero in a Hoops shirt &, if we welcome them to the fold & make them feel like real Rs, maybe they'll stay when the hero moves on because we'll have taught them what it's all about to support a football club. You don't "get" what real support is about right away if you haven't grown up with it, you don't "get" that it's a lifelong commitment, though good times & bad, right off the bat. There's no doubt the long term committed fan is a "better" fan for the club but these guys have to start somewhere & it's the attitude of the hard core crew, guys like us, that will help them transition from hero worship to being a true Rs fan. We need more of 'em & we each have the responsibility to help convert them to the one true religion of football & the Rs. I can't wait for the day when we wander down the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo or Shanghai & bump into folk wearing Rs gear instead of Man U & Chelsea colours.
So can someone do me a favour next season: unfortunately, I won't be able to make it any time soon but can one of you find a new, transient, worried looking, out of place, new Rs fan & welcome him to Loftus Rd for me!

Hey if Madara and Joon and the rest of them hang around to support QPR exclusively once their hero has moved on then fair play. Not too keen on welcoming any fan to the home support while dressed in a Utd shirt with "Park" on the back of it though. They are just tourists and deserve no welcoming treatment.

Like the new stadium/training ground, it may take more then a few weeks for it to happen so no point bringing it up every other thread imo.

Now I've got a tough time disagreeing with you on that one! I really can't imagine what would have gone through the mind of someone pulling on a red shirt & then showing up at our end. One of the more patient among us would have to have a chat with those lads!

K so lets take Nelsen for example as he is a neighbour of yours now. A Canadian fan loves Ryan Nelsen,,,follows him throughout his career from team to team and now back to Toronto. Are they a QPR fan for taking an interest in QPR because Nelsen was playing for them at the time? No they are not and now multiply it 1000 fold and you end up with these Korean fan boys gushing every time Park mis-kicks the ball and voting him MOTM on various websites even though he has been for the most part sh1t. How many will ditch Park and follow QPR? or are we hoping Park retires here and they start supporting QPR by default? Long shot as they will just find another Korean footballer to latch onto because it is in their culture to do so.

Btw i thought Nelsen was great for us last season and hope he does well over there (Not that i am going to start supporting Toronto :-) )

How's it "your club"? You've just admitted that you only started supporting us when Park came and you may stop when he leaves. Try following them week in, week out through relegation's, administrations, dodgy chairmen, cr*p football and all sorts. Try following them up and down the country in Division 2, try flying home from the other side of the world for 5 games a year even though they lose every time.

1 season watching the club cos your knackered, washed up hero signed here and it's "your club"?!!! Wish you fanboys would do one!

                      • Tarbie does have a massive point there

No problem with new fans that support the club for the right reason but comments like madaras show a lack of respect and understanding to long term fans

In this scenario, that Bon and co may or may not stick around if Park leaves. As Park is likely staying at least a year everyone should pipe down a little on this matter!

Most folk in Canada probably had no idea who Ryan Nelsen was before he came to Toronto FC (& likely not that many do now!) but I get your drift. And you're right, most of them will move on but, being really practical, let's hope they buy a ton of Rs merchandise while Park, & they, are with us. I'm much more concerned about the tiny few that might remain fervent & loyal afterwards, maybe their kids will grow up little rs & the Rs disease will spread! Personally, it costs me less (in terms of mental trauma!) to be nice to everyone anyway but we'll all benefit from any part-time fans that get the "warm fuzzies" from us long term Rs & become true Rs suporters as a result. I'm starting to repeat myself now so I think I'll shut up but meantime, I'm sure Tony Fernandes will be tuned in to the next big name with marketing value & I think that's just how football is done in the modern world. It's just how the big clubs do business these days & if we want to be big, we need to do some of the same. I don't care what division QPR are in, I'll always be a supporter, but I'd rather see them have all the financial resources necessary to stay in the Premier League. We don't get too many Championship games on TV over here but we get pretty much all the Prem games every week so you guys need to have pity on me & do anything you can to help fill the coffers, get 'em back up, & give me something to watch on Saturdays!

Now if only Junior Hoilett would declare for Canada, maybe there'd be a chance of getting an Rs Supporters Club going in the Toronto area. You guys don't know what real pain is like for us immigrants : we have to get together with ANY other football fans because supporters from some clubs, like ours, are too thin on the ground. That means hanging out with guys that support Utd, Chelsea & who knows who else!
