  • Granero £2.5m

Swansea after Granero on the cheap, surely whatever his wages we can't let him go that cheap?

From what I've seen off him that is a good price

Didn't we pay something like 8 or 9 million?

Why would we take a £6.5m (or whatever it is) hit on a player who has 3 years left on his contract with us? If that's what they're tryna pay, tell the sheep $haggers to fark off & we keep him. We've been mugged off enough in the past.

Don't use what WE pay for players as any logical yard stick.

Stick him on ebay starting at 0.99p with a reserve of 5m.

I'm sure it was reported originally as 3.5m but the media kept increasing it as we went through the season. Certainly don't recall anywhere near 9m being reported at the time.

                  Spot on Deepcut

                  We paid between £3-4m

There may well have been add ons or buy back/sell on figures attached, but we didn't shell out £9m for him.

Remy £7m & then Samba £12.5m were club record signings, no mention of Esteban being anything like that much.

But people believe what they want to believe.

I'd still hold out for our money back, or much closer than Taffys are offering (allegedly - source ?)

There'll be some Euro teams willing to pay £3.5m as deadlines draw nearer.

Well Redknapp track record says he likes creative skilful maveric players who do things out of the ordinary - he built teams around Paolo di Canio, Luka Modric, Rafa van der Vaart for example - heard him praise up players likes Zola and Bergkamp before - Spurs played lovely pass and move football - and at international level on the BBC world cup coverage he is always on about how modern and effective and beautiful Spain play and how Germany have a man in the hole that English teams cant even get close to playing how they do, and how Pirlo runs the show for Italy. Even if you look at the best periods of play the club had last season with all the limitations and problems there were, like that first half at Villa where they passed the ball around and controlled the game, you could see the start of that kind of play which is why the club brought him in.

So really the evidence says any silky skilled, technical, intelligent, creative midfielder or number 10 has every reason to be optimistic if they are playing under the current manager. All they need is good technique and attitude and to show a positive impact on games. But I am struggling to think of a single game out of the 20 odd he played last year where Granero showed any of that imo. Maybe Granero will do better elsewhere, maybe he is better than Maradona and Pele combined, but if he plays like he did last year he wont be much use to any team any where.

We paid somewhere in the region of €4.5million which is circ £3.7million. Of that figure who knows how much of that was upfront, what was based on so many appearances or if we stayed up. Transfer deals are so complex these days, but what baffles me is how so many on here get sucked and believe as fact what the press report.

Not digging you or anyone out Matty, just pointing out a misconception.

In fairness, if he stays for his entire contract, he may well end up costing us £9m with 5 years of wages, etc.
                              But not up front.
