£1.5m for Cesar and his wages off the books is good business. He doesn't want to play in the championship and by the time we get back up he will be nearly retired. By NOT accepting Arsenal's terms (if rumour is correct) we would be cutting off our nose to spite our face!

Originally posted by Rich View PostNot at all. The alternative is we keep him and he does a barton or bosingwa and just collects large sums of wages for those 3 years. The simple fact we were **** last season and got relegated highlights the club is being run badly so we have to change our tact. The signing of Simpson indicates we are heading in the right direction (young, english and free transfer for experienced prem player = good business). We must cut our cloth and get rid of the players who we don't need.

I wouldn't let him go for any less than 3.5 million and even then I'd have add ons for league finish and European qualification. It isn't time to panic just yet as we have parachute payments to sustain us for a season or two and we should take advantage of that fact.

...we're apparently paying him £80k a week while we wait for a better offer. i doubt it's going to be so much better and there's no guarantee he'd sign (if i had a choice of playing in the champions league with arsenal or, say, playing in paulo di canio's madhouse at sunderland, i know what i'd do...).
sell him and get him off the payroll as soon as.

Personly I think 1.5 mil is a good price not a fair price but fairness doesn't come into it buying clubs know they have us over a barrel .
Keeping Green is another pain in the crutch 50k a week for a championship goalkeeper sickening , see if we can find someone to take him on a free but again they will know they have over the same barrel and want paying to take him

Add that to his good display in the confederations cup, his stock value can only be increased further.
As i said earlier 33 is not old for a goalkeeper..
Tell me what other world class (Brazil no 1) goalkeepers are out there for 1.5mill.
Answers on a postcard please ..
