  • Financial fair play

Fella from work was saying that he was at a sports seminar the other day in town, and a guy was giving a presentation and he was using QPR as an example.

He said that we would have to pay out over £2m to every other club in the Championship in fines as it stands.(with our latest reported £61m loss). Also said that we would have a transfer ban imposed on us from Jan2015 if our loss for 2013-2014 season is above the required limit of an £8m loss. This ban would only be withdrawn once we could show that we were in line with meeting the limit, which is £6m the following year.

I know that TF said that this was all under control but seems pretty worrying.

If this is the case we need to start shifting some of these hugely paid wasters asap, before we start getting clobbered.

I don't think we are the only club this applies to (although they always seem to give us as an example). I read that Chelsea for example have to be careful with transfers next year due to this ruling and let's face it they probably paid more for one player than we did for all of our transfers.

As jane said, we're definitely not the only club that does not apply for the new rules. Tony and Beard have shown that they have a lot to learn within the sport but when it comes to finances they're one of the best in the business. So in terms of finances I am not too worried.

They might be able to handle the fines for a while, but the transfer ban that could be imposed would be more of a problem. Especially if we don't make it back up in the first or second attempt, as our turnover would be a lot less.

We effectively need to reduce a £61m loss to £8m in a year. That's a hell of a turnaround required.

How does it work, does the new rules start from the 2014/2015 season? Then the losses will be counted from the upcomming season, which means we have the summer to offload the deadwood.

It will be based on our accounts submitted in December 2014( so I guess that covers half of this coming season and half of the following one), which would lead to a transfer ban from Jan 2015 and a fine if we reported a loss of above £8m.

Do you mean accounts submitted in December 2014 or the date the accounts are made up until?. There is a big difference because accounts can be submitted as much as 9 months after the actual date. Rangers accounts are made up to 31 May each year and they are due at the end of February. If you are talking about the accounts for 2014, they won't be made up until 31 May 2015 and they won't be due until February 2016.

Thats pretty serious to be honest - not that I don't trust the people in charge, but to get players like bosingwa of our wage bill is easier said than done. We need to drastically change our philosofy on terms of signing for the future. But thats not exactly brand new information.. We should sign players like Gayle, Maguire etc to build a team contending for promotion in 3 seasons.

I read somewhere, that clubs relegated from the prem are exempt from this for the first season in the championship.

Good point, I would have thought they were for the 2013-14 season up to next May, which would need to be submitted in December going by the FFP rules. Not 100% sure on that though.

That's the way I'm thinking, I trust them, but it is a pretty big responsibility to turn things round financially, and in no way easy.

If we don't we could find ourselves stuck with whatever squad we have in August 2014, as we would be unable to make any transfers from that point onwards until we are within the FFP constraints.
