A friend of mine was browsing fares by train and he was saying if you leave about mid afternoon, arrive early evening to have a few beers, watch the match and after hit the town for some pubbing and clubbing and then get the first train out of Newcastle at about 3-30am.
Fare he found was £32 return.
Unfortunately due to work commitments can't make the game, but have been there the previous two years for stag do's and stayed in Jury's hotel near the main station back into London and also only a 10 minute walk to the stadium.
PS be aware for nose bleeds in the away end as it is far away from the pitch!!!!
Try National Express Trains.
