  • Players Monthly Salaries

So what should a club our size be paying each month in the ideal world in the championship. It seems accepted we have been paying the top end of 65k a week in the prem for players. Its certainly going to take a bit of re-educating of those looking to join us that we will not be paying silly money anymore but it begs the question what should/is the top end salary we should be offering.

5k a week is 20k a month and therefore quarter of a mil a year which is a princely sum to most people alternatively
10k a week is 40k a month and more or less half a million a year

What is the going rate for championship players so we don't have our pants pulled down again??

I certainly would not want to be paying more then 10k a week on a player to get them into the club unless they have ability which is going to have a significant impact on our league position.

Is a 10k cap too low?? whats the top weekly wage we should be considering and what rate would see you thinking the club has not learnt its lesson and is continuing in the vain of the last two seasons

I do wonder what players at Derby County I.e. earn pr. week. 15K or thereabouts?

      Good thread Acton.

Me personally would like to think we will change our strategy but cant see Arry boy wanting to sign young up and coming players and nurturing them. But a club of our stamp should not be paying the dough we are simple as that

Suppose there a decent comparison at that rate its 60k a month and 720k a year which is a fantastic wage for kicking a ball about.

If we assume that thats the average that's about 13mil a year based on a squad of 18 players!!!!

Wayne Bridge wanted £22k a week & we offered him 10k plus appearance money. That's the line we're going along it seems.

Closed the gate after the horse has bolted comes to mind.

I have my moments mate :pleasantsuprise:

So what would you like to see a cap at??

As Shania speculates if the likes of Derby are paying 15k a week I think we should be matching that as I would argue were clubs of a similar statue. Some may argue as were in London we should pay a bit more but I would suggest if were touching 20k a week in the championship (nearly 100k a month and million a year) were potentially starching ourselves again

Yeah agree Ric but you cant blame the club for having a different approach now

Interesting Ric and on that basis I would personally say that the club made the right decision not sanctioning that deal if the basic was 22k.

Does however as you say set out clearly the clubs intention going forwards I cannot imagine we will be offering that much in excess of 15k to a player we were desperate for.

Could it be what Shaun Derry, Clint Hill and the rest of the old guard at QPR earns maybe? Plenty of money to survive on

No definitely not but 22k for a very decent player in the CCC is average money for that league yet we offered as low as 10 (football terms low) plus appearance money is pathetic no one half decent will entertain that.

If the average in this league is 22k to 25k im left in shock and no wonder English football financially is in ruins. Would mean top earners are on what 30? possibly 40k???

It could be that we will see Harry Bringing in a few loans from the Prem then.

In the CCC most definitely around that figure. Many Players in league 1 are on 10 +

Sorry I should of said at the top clubs not average over the whole league. I imagine the average over the whole division to be approx 7-8k pw but Bridge was one of the best players on the league last season & to mount a serious push we need the better players.

What do you think players get these days?
I would have thought lower league players were taking home 75k to 90k a season not that amount in a two months

im in the wrong business as I think I could have made a decent scratch lower league player
