Not sure what the PFA can do when players refuse to honour their contracts. Surely players don't have any legal rights to sue the club for wanting to keep them in the squad whilst under contract.

hopefully the pfa couldn't/wouldn't do much in this instance.

i'm sure barton thinks that he can argue the treatment he received from rigg/hughes a year ago constituted a form of constructive dismissal... but it didn't stop him pocketing half his wages from our club, so he won't have a leg to stand on.

I'm not really sure why this is still being discussed. Joey has not admitted the story is even true. I think it is just a journalist's imagination. He saw that Joey had been offered half his wages to go to Marseilles, put two and two together and made five. If Joey and the Club cannot come to an accommodation with Marseilles, he will return to the Club and play in the Championship. The posts about him playing in the reserves makes no sense because I am sure he can make some contribution. OK he's a pain in the ....... but then how many players do we have who aren't. Just because they do not say too much, doesn't mean they are not a disruptive influence. I actually think that he and Harry could work well together.

Not a stretch to believe that this story is straight out of a journalist's imagination.

The reason why some are saying he can sit out 2 years in the reserves are if he refused to play and that i would not put beyond him, or he just wouldn't try if picked for the 1st team.
As you say JB has denied this, but i wouldn't put it past his agent to talk to journos so as to start off negotiations

Joey said that he hadn't spoken to anyone at the club, i am sure his agent has. Let's not be naive here, Joey wants to go, his agent is already seeing the $ signs and iw probably in contact with the club every day

If we paid money for him I would make him stay but as we got him on a free let him go.

let him go without the 3.5m he wants...yes please. if he's not prepared to rip up his contract then bring the mug back and make him play for us in the championship. why should we pay anything to him or towards his wages and we get nothing out of it.

I think you missed the whole point. Do you think its ok for us to pay him to leave?

Agree with you Bush , but having Barton in the dressing room could either

1 cause mayhem , because hes such a disruptive influence ,or
2 instigate a bit of much needed passion and fight into our lackluster "team "

Either way if I was Tony i`d cut off my c ock before i`d pay Barton off.

he is a pratt but I can't see him turning up and not trying in the championship. It's not his style. He;ll give 100% and moan about us on twitter. I don't care as long as he puts in a shift on the pitch.

                              Maybe.

My point was if we owe him 7 million over two years then let him go with half then thats half we won't get if we let him rot in the reserves.

If we go down route of trying to sack him and pay nothing It won't work as it will be a long process bringing more turmoil to the club. The FA and media hate us.

Ideal situation would be to sell him for a fee to recoup some of the wages we have wasted on him.

IMO he is a decent player but he will ruin the dressing room. We were lucky we went up with him last time.

Will we need to buy someone to replace him? If so what will they cost to buy plus wages? Will that be cheaper than keeping him if we can get him to behave professionally?
