It just shows you that after all the bull about money not being his motivation it blatently is. He can go to Marseille tomorrow but he wont give up another precious payday. They are all greedy bar stewards.

The answer in my mind is simple, if he wants to go , go. If he is totally greedy stay. Its simple really and the club should stick to that .

If QPR pay him off i will write a letter to the owner questioning his ball ox !!

If we go down route of trying to sack him and pay nothing It won't work as it will be a long process bringing more turmoil to the club. The FA and media hate us.

Ideal situation would be to sell him for a fee to recoup some of the wages we have wasted on him.

IMO he is a decent player but he will ruin the dressing room. We were lucky we went up with him last time.

I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

i'm fed up with the situation but no way shd he be paid off , he must turn up for training or be fined , personally i'd fine him every time he said something disloyal to the club

This is just positioning, there is a deal to be done and any number of outcomes

marsailles want him but dont want to pay a transfer for him or all of his wages, they say they cant afford it but they have champs league money coming in next season

Joey wants to play in the champs league for marsailles but wants to get the best deal for himself and marsailles

Really QPR hold all the aces in this situation he is a qpr player and we can just insist he turns up for pre season training and gets on with it with us, Harry says he wants him, again this could just be positioning to force a bid from marsailles there will be plenty more of this over the next weeks, from all sides nothing said in that time should be taken without a pinch of salt its going to be a case of who blinks first
its New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworks

Sadly, folks, he is entitled to his pay-off. It's the way the game and contracts run...

It doesn't make it any easier for us though does it ?

Barton reminds me of that other leech who nearly bankrupted the club, never showed any interest in the club, and who too wasn't motivated by money...

              ... Vinnie Jones

Yes he is, but we don't have to pay him off. He si contracted to us and we can let his contract run down whilst we pay his wages. Not that I own the club, but I'd sooner do that and have him available to play for us & have something to show for the money than lump him £3.5m after he has mugged us off.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

From a few things i have heard and snippets from else where, here is what i think is happening.

Joey wants to go, and we want rid. Noone will offer him the same money or anywhere close. He wants us to pay him off so he can have his "dream move" to Marseille. He knows this is his only chance of playing champions league football and he is going to go (speculation) but he is under contract at LR, after making it clear he does not want to play for us, he has been told he can be released on a free but wont get a penny more. He knows he is in his prime and wont get another gig on anywhere as near as much money after sitting in the reserves of a championship club for 2 years. He knows this, and for this reason, we are holding all the cards, but what our Joey has done is to inform the club that he wants to go into coaching/management and is happy to earn his 70k a week to train and play the odd reserve match while getting his coaching badges. There is nothing the club can do about that as what he does in his free time is up to the club. He will go to Marseille, and we will get some money, but it is under negotiation with us OM and Joey.

                    huh?

How he is entitled to a pay off??

He has a contract, he stays till that contract finishes, or another team buys/loans him

He's continually stated that he's no longer motivated by money as he has more than enough now. Therefore why doesn't he just accept the drop in wages OM are offering to sign him, so he can have his 'dream move'?

So he's either a liar or a hypocrite, or both. Take your pick.

He is an egotist who thinks he is better than everyone else. Everything he does is to "prove" he is better and more intelligent than everyone else. He might not care too much about the money, what he cares about is not letting people think he has lost.

Funny looking at all the lawyers on here saying he/the club can do this and that. Nobody knows the situation unless you have the contract in front of you.

He wants to move to Marseille? Nothing wrong with that. Champs League football and one of the top teams in France. Fact is if he stays with QPR he will be one of the best central midfielders in the Championship and a real plus to getting us promotion. I dont care if he moans/cries/goes dogging off the pitch and hates his life. The guy will put 100% in each game and make others do so as well and to me that is really all that matters.
