  • Pay as you play for 30+

It would be nice to protect the club from overpaying players to adopt pay as you play contract for new signing above 30 Plus bonus according to contribution per match such as goals, assists, etc. This to motivate players specifically who have previously played in the PL and still can do it.

think that's easier for a more clear cut role - like a striker.
but how would you measure Derry's input? defensive midfielder who is not there to create assists but there to be a body and put tackles in. defenders playing per clearances would be too complicated to work out.

Wont be many players coming to our club then! Most 30+ players are looking to cash in before they retire but also well aware that they could get injured or benched far easier than their younger colleagues. They'll just flock to the clubs that dont offer pay to play.

Incentives are a good idea; maybe a basic salary with the whole team getting bonuses when they do something decent like promotion, cup wins blah blah blah. If the whole team get a bonus then there might be more TEAM work. The captaincy should be passed around the players to give all of them a feeling of responsibility, if a player doesnt perform with the band on, they get a mark against them. Likewise, for bad behaviour a mark should be put against a player - 3 strikes and your out of the bonus scheme.

Great in principle, yes, but never enforceable. A decent player would never sign such a deal.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Yes understand that. I think it could be left to the manager (and his team) judgement by recodring points per performance. Bonuses per points reflectong performance will work out.

Basic Salary is a good one and could be based on player's pervious club performance/# games played, etc.

A decent player like Lampard who is proven may not be classified under this category. This is left to manager judgement imo.

You are forgetting that Boswinga has a champions league medal.....that idea wouldnt work for the players that are looking for a pre-retirement pay out.

Sounds to be right on the surface but when you look closer goal keepers and central defenders and c/mids are generally at their best at 30+ using the experience they've gained over the past 10 years or so, Nelson Derry Hill are the 1st to spring to mind in our case ,Imo only 2 younger players came out with any credit Townsend and the French lad Remy who as we speak is probably getting his plimsoles on to do a runner

                    Worst idea ever.

No one worth their salt would go near a deal like that not to mention a player 'in the wings' not played for months meaning no or very little pay called into action, you think they are gonna bust a gut when not been paid for months? Get real.

Typical Fernandes / Beard nonsense trying to 'protect the club' a matter of months after spunking fifty odd MILLION!!

Closing the gate after the horse has bolted comes to mind.

I think what is a better route to go down is lower basic with large win plus points and league possition bonus this has been used at many clubs

Unless you apply any of these harsh rules to the players already at the club then all you are doing is rewarding them for flopping with preferential treatment.

I dont think that is a good idea

Just change your policy of trying to give it the large one signing 'names'

I'd rather be like Norwich & Swansea signing players for ability not for what they've won. Snodgrass, Johnson, Routledge, Dyer, Michu, Hoolihan, Williams players who play their hearts out AND have ability and better still I bet you all on pretty modest wages. Gotta change the whole transfer structure not insert silly rules.

                            That's correct.

Players that have won have been there and done it, may not want it as much now.

Players that have not and want it more will put in shift to win something... just a thought?

WATRB obsession with a players age continues

Age is immaterial its attitude and motivation which counts

There are many players who are not even close to 30 who loose motivation, Rowan Vine anyone, and there are plenty in the top flight well under the age of 30 just picking up wages and not playing
