  • James DeGale wants to fight fellow Brit George Groves at Loftus Rd

Fresh from defending his WBC silver super-middleweight title against Stjepan Bozic, James DeGale has called for a rematch with fellow Brit George Groves.

DeGale collected the victory over Bozic on Saturday thanks to a technical knockout in the fifth round, and notched up his sixth win on the spin since losing out to Groves in 2011 by a close points decision.

And the Olympic gold medallist wants to take on Groves at Queen's Park Rangers' Loftus Road in a potential eliminator for a super-middleweight world title fight.

"I'd box Groves in my next fight, but I swear to God he does not want to box me. He doesn't want it," DeGale said.

"That's a massive fight. That could sell out QPR football stadium. I'd love to fight there. That's my local club. I was brought up on that club - my granddad is a mad supporter."

DeGale's promoter Mick Hennessy added the fight against the WBA holder Groves should be for the vacant WBC belt.

"Why not a final eliminator with George Groves for the WBC title [where] everything's on the line?" he said.

Yeah what a great night that would be ,
Imo he's trying to lure Groves in saying he doesn't want to fight him I think Groves would be up for it ,it's just that Groves doesn't mouth off like Degayle which is disrespectful bearing in mind there's not a lot between them

Groves dosnt need the fight. He's got bigger fish on the horizon. Why would he drop his sights just to give Degale a 3rd attempt at beating him?

Degale seems obsessed with Groves. It's almost as if he needs to keep mouthing off about Groves as a way of getting headlines.

Poor fighter IMO. Groves in a different league. Hearn last week on ringside talking about a possible fight with Froch by the end of next year. Don't think Degale is even on Groves' radar.

I'd like to see them avoid each other until they both have world titles.
although I don't think there is anything between the them, since their fight groves
Has pushed on a bit faster then degale and is only a fight or two away from froch whereas degale is 2-3 fights away.
I think in two years time degale vs groves will be a super fight that will fill out loftus road or dare i say it...****hole

I much prefer DeGale, I really can't warm to Groves at all - but on a professional level you're bang on. What has Groves got to prove? He's done him twice and is moving up the career ladder - no need at all for him to go back to DeGale again. Best thing DeGale can do is to try and win a few on the bounce and then earn himself another shot at Groves in a few years.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

A bit harsh to say he's done him ! It was very close with opinions split by many on who won the other fight was a close as amatuers

JDG done all this nonsense before & got slapped up by GG.

Groves the better fighter for me only problem is him being a big s(um fan. Can't warm to him but on the other hand JDG is full of sh!t & to flash so couldn't give a toss who wins but probably JDG just for the QPR connection although he's meant to be a Gooner.

Im in the can't warm to George Grove camp too. Interesting to find out why we all can't take him and if it is because he is Chelsea or simply because he is a ginger.

I have to be honest and admit im not even convinced yet that he is that great a boxer he too me looks like he can be bullied, Froch would absolutely terrorise him, and I really cannot stand the way he talks with the gangster twang.

Watched Degale last night on 5 and when he goes through the gears he looks decent but he dominated that fight last night but in the interview his face was all marked up like he had been in a 12 round tear up. Leaves himself to open for my liking

Thinking about it it would be right up TF and Beards street using the ground for a boxing bout trial run for any new stadium we may go too

I was purely meaning that he beat him, not necessarily that he bashed him up. IN boxing, that's all that matters really; on their records, Groves has beaten him twice.

Groves doesn't need Degale simple as that. The only way I can see them 2 getting it on again is if there is a world belt on the line.

Cant stand Degale and loved it when Groves beat him regardless of him being a Chelsea fan.

Degale is a decent enough boxer, quite silky and good technically but Groves is the superior, imo.

I disagree. Groves had him in his pocket from start to finish in the last fight.

I watched a lot of Degales fights and just don't see a top level fighter.

The only reason he's name ever gets banded about is because he's always talking a good game. He's like Fraudly. Full of bu11 and self hype.

He's desperate for another crack at groves as its his only way of keeping himself in the game. Without him piping up chatting nonsense, none of the fighters at the top or promoters are even bothered with him. Simple as that.
