£1M for a 33 year old keeper is not a fee to be sniffed at, but then again, keepers can play at a high level into their late 30s and early 40s, recently keepers like Seaman, Schmeicel, Van der Sar, Lehman,Friedel, Scwarzer etc, have played to this age, so a £2M for a world class international keeper of 33 is a reasonable fee.

On the other hand, QPR/Redknapp have made it well known that they would like him to go so QPR cannot really be in a position to try and haggle too much.
Think he was a free stan

I value him at £2.5m I've seen worse keepers go for a lot more, they paid £1.5m for shay given last year.

I think £1m is too low and I would wait to see what other offers come in.

BTW he wasn't signed on a free, we paid a fee for him.

A couple of bits of info:

a.) Shay Given has been at Villa for 2 seasons and they paid 3.5m for him. Beyond me why any club would pay that for a 35 year old and then put him on a 5 year contract but there you go.
b.) Cesar was definitely signed on a free as he was released from his contract by Inter, there categorically cannot be a fee paid to another club for a player that has been released from his contract. There may have been a signing on fee to the player and his agent but that is a different matter.

Some things that a few other posters on here have stressed that many can't seem to comprehend. First of all Cesar is definitely leaving, Harry has said that and so has the player. It is also well publicised that we didn't pay a fee for him and lets face it, he has hardly had the most impressive of seasons. Then there's the fact that we have been relegated & need him off the wage bill plus there really aren't too many interested parties other than Arsenal...........Add all this up and it's pretty easy to see that we have very little bargaining power.

If the player wants to go to Arsenal and they want to pay 1m then we should just get the deal done. Personally I half expected the player to be allowed to leave on a free just to get him off the wage bill!

Says here he was free Olly. Can i just say we are the ones that want him to leave, so Arsenal and whoever else may be interested will not offer anything like you say he is valued at, they know we want him gone.
I'm surprised they offered any money

JULIO CESAR admits he is shocked by his move to QPR.
The Brazil star, 32, has left Inter Milan on a free transfer for Loftus Road.
He was in West London yesterday to seal the deal and he said: “I am a bit surprised.
“But I am delighted to have been given the opportunity by QPR to come to London, learn English and play in the Premier League.”
Cesar has spent the last seven years at Inter, winning five Serie A titles and the Champions League.
However, he appeared certain to drop down the pecking order this season.
He added: “It all started during my summer vacation when Inter suggested that I reduce my salary.
“No player in my situation would have done that — I am not a hypocrite and I can talk openly about this. It became a tough situation for both parties.
“I then spoke to my representative and I thought this was a good choice.
“I’ll terminate my contract with Inter Milan and thank the president, Massimo Moratti, for the seven wonderful years we have had together.
“I’ll ask him to let me go on the pitch before the match between Inter and Roma so I can give a collective hug to all the fans.
“That would be a nice gesture, and I don’t think the president will deny me that.”
Cesar’s arrival at QPR would more than likely mean Robert Green losing his No1 spot after just three matches.
Rangers boss Mark Hughes said: “I haven’t had a chance to really talk to him about it.
“Obviously, I was concerned with the preparation for the game, but certainly I will sit down with Rob and go through it.
“It is a challenge for everybody. What we’re trying to do here is improve the quality of the group and that includes the goalkeeping position as well.
“I said I wanted to have two quality keepers this window if at all possible. Sometimes, when opportunities present themselves, you want to pursue them.
“When you get an opportunity to possibly bring a player of Julio Cesar’s quality, with his playing record and his mentality, then I think you have to pursue it.
“I think when we started the process we probably never thought there was an opportunity or chance he would be able to come here. If we are able to conclude it, we’ll be delighted.”

I don't understand.......Are you saying that he is clearly world class because only 5 of the goals that he let in out his 24 games for us were his fault?..........Cos a costly blunder in one game out of 5 clearly is the form of Champions!!!
