Hughes explains what went wrong at QPR

Winning matches proved far from simple at QPR, where Hughes admits he made mistakes, though points out that the problems Harry Redknapp identified when the club was relegated last month were in evidence when he first walked into Loftus Road. "A lot of the things Harry has said have resonance with me; I faced the same problems too," he said. "There was disaffection within the dressing room which was very difficult to sort out.

Redknapp blames Hughes, Hughes blames Warnock.....
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

        Hughes added:

"Whenever I've left a position, I've always gone through the process of, 'What I have done and how I could have done things better'. I also look at things I have done okay and acknowledge that as well. That's the process I go through, what I've done since I left QPR. But there are a lot of things that were difficult from the moment I walked through the door and things that didn't really change for the short space of time I was there. Good managers have gone in there and found similar situations that are difficult to overcome. So I wasn't the only one. But I'm not trying to exonerate myself from blame because, with hindsight, you think 'I'd have done it a different way'. But there was a desire from the ownership to progress quickly and as a consequence everyone was part of that."

The team that Hughes left behind was noticeably different from the one he inherited from Warnock - loads of changes and the few existing players he still played only really got bench time - so that disaffection in the dressing room was caused by his transfer policy and the players he and his super agent brought in and the money they got paid. Harry brought 4 new players into the squad. Jenas did ok and was being a fraction of what others were, Townsend was a tar and again got peanuts. Remy earned money by scoring good goals and was a quality signing (better than any Hughes signed). Sadly, due to the long winter lay off in Russia Samba was far from fit but very few of us would have said no before he came. The poison already existed in the dressing room at that time and was caused by Hughes, not Warnock or Rednapp. All in all, they can all say what they want and blame whom ever they wish. But it was you Mr Hughes that was to blame and that, as they say in the trade, is a fact.

"Peter Coates, the Stoke chairman, described the QPR experience as a "blip" on his new manager's career, but one he was willing to overlook in offering a three-year contract. "He's been pretty successful everywhere else," Coates said. "You possibly have to look at the experience of the people behind QPR. After all, three pretty solid managers worked at the club in the past two seasons and they all found it difficult."

Everything else Hughes says may be excuses but he and Coates are right on the above counts.

Tbh mate; I think people are blinded by his playing career. I just cant believe there is that much of a shortage of 'managerial material' out there that someone would opt for him...check this:

"When you lose a job in the circumstances in which I left QPR there is always a worry you might not get another chance but I have always had faith in my ability to manage at this level. I have been in charge of around 280 Premier League games. I know what it's about."

He was SACKED for being incompetent!

Nah, if Hughes hadnt been in charge at the beginning of this last season we would have been ok....it was the players he got in and then the lack of leadership that got us into the position we are now....redknapp just couldnt turn it around. The rot had set in too much.

Probably because he was still being paid and TF may have said it to push him out.

But this certainly didn't help matters:

What?! What manager doesn't dream of owners like ours? Where they will happily let them go and buy players! Just shows how deluded he really is IMO

Absolutely. But that doesn't absolve the owners from their share of accountability, when they themselves (by their own admission) have been too hasty and naive, and where the buck ultimately stops with.

If he wasn't given any money... QPR boards fault?
He was given all the support and money needed... still the QPR board to blame?

So what does the manager get the blame for?

Did Hughes not advise the QPR board where things needed to be changed and looked at?

The board at QPR got behind and trusted Mark Hughes 100%, who in return wasted our money, slit the players up and didn't win a single game.

Of course Hughes was at fault. Just not all of it is all I'm saying.

Yeah there are plenty of people at a football club involved with signing players and not just the manager.

But tbh it don't really matter now who brought em - what matters is whether the club will get rid - so far they don't seem nearly as keen as Harry to clear out the flops.
