How much power do the professional footballers' association have over football clubs?

I've been reading sunderland players have called in the PFA to fight paolo di canio fines... surely the PFA cant stop football clubs if they want to fines players who cannot behave themselves?

Do the PFA fines clubs or what...

If true it just goes to show that player power has gone crazy. What next ?. Sunderland players or any other go on strike, work to rule. Thank god that normal working contracts aren't related to football otherwise the whole econonmy would be more **** up.

The PFA are a joke with way, way too much power. Gordon Taylor is a crook. Power to DiCanio's elbow. His calling out of players is exactly what the game needs. More managers should follow his example. The less power these players, their crooked, PC 'union' and their agents have the better.

The PFA have massive power, why do you think we didn't push forward to sack Barton for gross mis conduct, the reason was the PFA would of backed Joey to he hilt and they would of found some way of getting it rescinded

Gordon Taylor was on £600,000 a year 4-5 years ago, absolute joke, about time there was a purge on wages and prices drastically reduced at the turnstiles

Liek any union their power lies with the number of members. If there is a problem like at Sunderland and itcould not be resolved the lpayers would be asked to strike. Some would some wouldnt but it would cause major disruption.

to be fair the PFA are there to protect players interests so they will always be pro the player 100%

Underachieving players are the arsoles for fans to pay money to watch, football chairmen should have the guts to employ more nanagers like Di canio and stand up to cheating bustard players

Because Gordon Taylor likes to make as much noise as possible at times like this and get noticed.

They do enverything in there power to get there members off whatever they are getting charged over. They pull previous cases up from the past and its a you didn't take that action against that player so why this, also they would in extreme circumstances ask there union(the players) to go on strike, they have many ways to drag a club through the gutter it's a disgrace
