So now we have strength in depth at last!

I have been banging on about S I D for two years now.

So a quick review of our squad reveals that for the first time in years we do have real strength in depth and are all wondering how Madge will go about selecting the team with so many options. Well, every season we (like most teams) start to suffer with injuries and suspensions (and Lord knows we have had our fair share in recent times) and the "thin" squads get found out (us!). This has been our situation over the last 3 seasons (at least) but I honestly believe that we now have quality cover in all areas. Yes even at full back as Matty and Kaspars can, have and do play there!

For those who may not have realised we now have a 30 man squad* and although appear top heavy in midfield we know that a few of those listed as "midfield" can also play up top i.e. Angelo and Adele.

    3 keepers
    8 defenders
    12 midfielders
    7 strikers (well 6 + aggy!)

*This does include Ramone Rose who is at loan at Northampton

Take some comfort people and remember that Madge and JG can only put 11 on the park every week and we all know we would all pick a slightly different team if we were in charge.

despite the dissapointment of yesterday in not getting a quality striker or a left back,i agree we have a squad capable, under the right manager,to get at least a play off place.

................this is even if we do loan out a couple in the next two weeks as expected.

I am happy with the squad and have been for a while, not believeing we need a "20goal" striker tbh. If playing well, we will get goals from midfield in abundance as we did under LDC. The additions of SImpson and Watson are good in my opinion.

However the depth is very unbalanced in midfield, meaning keeping players happy (unless a few go, which i expect) will be a problem, and may cause unrest in the camp..

OK Cook is out for a while yet, Alberti is not on the radar, Gazza is not in the reckoning, either Mahon or Legs will probably go out on loan. That leaves 8 but all of those 8 could and will play and are all looking good. but with 8 on board a couple more injuries or suspensions and we have got 6 on the pitch and 2 on the bench. Not exactly overloaded. i'm happy
