  • England Squad announced

    No QPR player (this time)

Roy Hodgson has named his England squad for the upcoming double-header with Republic of Ireland and Brazil and has called up Reading's Alex McCarthy for the first time.

The Royals stopper, who has previous international experience at Under-21s level, comes in after impressive displays at the Madejski Stadium. He joins other 'keepers Joe Hart and Ben Foster on the 22-man list.

Liverpool's in-form striker Daniel Sturridge is included in the squad, too, alongside the Reds' on-loan forward Andy Carroll.

Frank Lampard, Gary Cahill and Ashley Cole, fresh from Europa League success with Chelsea, are also in Hodgson's line-up for the games at Wembley on 29 May and in Rio on 2 June.

Tickets are still available for the match at Wembley, click here for details.

Is this the first time we will have played Ireland since the trouble in the mid 90's?

Dont care anymore...i lost my interest when i saw they had lost theirs a couple of Tournaments ago. That squad is half full of players i hate, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Frank Lampard, Andy Carroll, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge...wish them all nothing but ill in their football careers.

Too many superstars in one team and it doesn't work, they don't know how to play together. Roy needs to call up the likes of Lambert, Shawcross, Rhodes etc..basically players with something to prove. Too many ego's in the current squad and I despise watching them. They play great football for the likes of liverpool, chelsea, united etc but when it comes to England they're suddenly sh*t and play boring boring football. Picking less known players will be better for us, would get us playing more like a club side which is how we need to play instead of pass, pass, pass needlessly around the back 4.

Derry must be gutted. Well deserved a call up after his recent performances.
