He got a 12 match ban, on top of his ban earlier in the season (which was due to a Johnson con, but if Barton wasn't nose to nose with him, it doesn't happen)
You can't just shrug those off unfortunately.

You say yourself he was cheated when given red against Norwich so can hardly tar him for that... maybe he shouldn't of gone face to face, but blimey that happens in every game in every season at some point. It's standing your ground and he cant be castigated because another player cheats and dives to the ground as if butted.
I don't understand how you can ignore the 15 games worth of suspension he got due to his reactions, and then say that apart from that he was well-behaved. There is a reason he's targeted by other players, it pays off. His reputation is not something he's got by accident.
You are right he didn't react most of the time, but when he did he got punished. We got punished.
He already thinks he's too good for the Championship, and thinks he's above it. He would likely get far worse provocation (and far less subtle) in the Championship. Do you honestly see him getting through a season without losing his rag?
By the sounds of it, this is a pointless conversation, as he no longer wants to play for us, and certainly not in the Championship.

As for the 12 games, well the FA hardly cover themselves in glory with their disciplinary process, especially of late letting off leg breaking challenges scott free etc, and whether it justified such a ban is debatable. It was also lengthened due to the fact he'd been wrongly re carded against norwich just to compound it further.
