On the same sort of lines, it's the first time I've ever turned the Chanel over during abide with me.
That performance was an absolute discrace. More worried about a politically correct line up than the quality of the singing. It was a discrace to a proud cup final tradition.
Anthems should be sung by the fans just accompanied by the band.

I personally don't think the anthem should be sung.
In internationals the players are English, the fans too ( or you wouldn't support England) but at club level...hardly any players were English so means nothing to them. The fans aren't all English so again means nothing to theme and the fans don't have to he English either so why bother with it?
The anthem is over used anyways. At internationals the band plays it 5 or 6 times a game. Should be sacred in my opinion. Think the anthem is only in very rare occasions to percent the over use

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.
I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.
We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

We already pander to the Welsh by not playing it when one of their teams plays at Wembley even though its also their National Anthem and I recall when we played Cardiff in the Play Off Final it was not played in case it upset them!!
I sincerely hope they play it when England play Ireland leter this month as the FA are warning us that will not accept the chant of "No Surrender" during ir even though this has been sang for years since the troubles ceased in the North of Ireland and is now sang against mainly Al Quaida or any group who threatens our Nation
Can you imagine if a steward came down the steps at the old Wembley in say 1941 and tried ejecting Winston Churchill because he said me must never surrender to the Nazis?
The whole Country has gone mad

Classic attempt at watering down any hint of being proud of this once great country of ours. That's the first comment me and my bro made when that appalling rendition bellowed out. Not surprised and certainly did the trick of keeping any Nationalistic fervour well and truly low key. Disgraceful.Heaven has a road, but no one travels it, hell has no gate but men will dig to get there

THe country being smothered in Union Jacks for the jubilee, and the Olympics making people prouder than they ever have of being British. We've never been a massively nationalistic people, for obvious reasons, so the Olympics and the excitement that went with it was very interesting.
Some opera singer singing the national anthem at a sporting event is hardly an attack on patriotism is it? Even if it wasn't quite to your taste.
