  • Transfer success rate in the Premier League

It's Sunday Morning, i'm hungover and bored. Thought I'd turn my mind to working out our hit/miss %

Feel free to correct me, as of course I'm prone to bias as much as anyone else not to mention some things are relative. But please give reasons for it, as I can't be bothered to list reasons for every transfer tbh.. heh but that doesn't mean we can't have some discussion on it.

    Loic Remy- HIT
    Jermaine Jenas- Jury still out
    Andros Townsend- HIT
    Christopher Samba- Jury still out
    Tal Ben Haim- HIT
    Stephane M'Bia- MISS
    Esteban Granero- MISS
    Julio Cesar- HIT
    Jose Bosingwa- MISS
    Junior Hoilett- MISS
    Park Ji-Sung- MISS
    Fabio- Was HIT. Now unsure.
    Andy Johnson- MISS*
    Ryan Nelsen- HIT
    Robert Green- HIT
    Samba Diakite- Jury still out
    Kieron Dyer- MISS*
    Jay Bothroyd- MISS
    DJ Campbell- MISS
    Luke Young- MISS
    Armand Traore- HIT
    Anton Ferdinand- MISS
    Shaun Wright Philips- Mostly MISS
    Joey Barton- MISS**
    Bobby Zamora- MISS*
    Djibrill Cisse- MISS initial HIT**
    Nedum Onuoha- HIT- eventually
    Danny Gabbidon- MISS
    Taye Taiwo- HIT

    *For being a sick note.
** Joey and Djibril has had some good games for us, but since they're not here they'd have to be considered as a MISS for now

I left out the likes of Yun, Perone, Murphy, Magri etc as they haven't been given a chance.

Abysmal, which is no real surprise. Just how bad though is incredible.. 31%

i would probably go with "unsure" for both keepers as although they're both capable of making world-class saves, i dont think either of them provide much confidence in the defence and are both liable to clangers quite often. not sure we've seen enough of Ben Haim either to say that he is a "hit" which for me would make the success rate even lower

Ben Haim hasn't put a foot wrong for me so far, he could ultimately be a miss though you're quite right.

But one worrying this is, how many of these players has had a proper crack at it? Easy to label them misses, but they could yet turn into HITs in the Championship.

We are so fricking wasteful it's not funny.

I would say m'bia has been a hit towards the latter part of the season when he was played in midfield, bar one or two mistakes he has shown passion and talent.
Also, if basing it on value for money, i would say jenas was a hit and so was diakite, had it not been for him last season i would have seen us go down and he has been dealing with emotional issues recently what with the incidents in mali. Bothroyd has actually scored quite a few important goals for us and was brought in as backup tbf to him and again, i find it difficult to call cisse a miss when he did his job last season of keeping us up. He had a few poor matches but other than that, he did his job just fine.
also you forgot about taiwo who was a definite hit by the end
"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. The idea that I trust my eyes more than the stats, I just don't buy that because I've seen magicians pull rabbits out of hats and I know I just know that rabbit's not in there." - Billy Beane

I did miss Taiwo, will add him. Cheers.

Yea it's hard to really define a HIT for squad players, will take your comments on board and see what other people add to the debate. Cisse is as controversial as Joey. He was hardest to make a decision on.

It sounds mad but Bosingwa hasn't played badly. It's just his attitude.

It's all subjective, would you say he's been a hit? He has had poor games, as have they all. I liked Fabio but I'm not sure if he's a HIT either really.

Not bad, but we drummed him off. Which goes back to my earlier point bout us not really giving players a fair crack. We have been so wasteful it is sickening.

When you look at the list of players, it seems insane. Maybe I should have gone for WASTED instead of MISS? Seems like a lot would fall into that category.
