Yet again Clint Hill demonstrates absolutely awful decision making in the heart of our defence and costs us a goal.

He was marking Walcott, yet when Corzola had the ball 10+ yards away he thought it best to charge towards the player with the ball, insted of staying on his man (in our box lets not forget), even though we had about 4 players nearer Corzola. The rest is history and it was truly pathetic. What annoys me most though is that after every incident like this, where he's at fault, he then turns and starts slating others as if it's theirs.

He did exactly the same against Sunderland. He was on Fletcher in the middle, the ball was wide with Johnson with Bosingwa placed to block any shot on target from the tight angle, yet Hill charged him also, he hit a miss-hit shot which went straight to the now vacated Fletcher and it hit him and went in... we go behind. Luckilly that day we recovered, but often we haven't.

I like the blokes desire, but his defending is pitiful, as well as the above examples there was the Suarez embarrassment, deflectons against Everton and Fulham as he doesn't adjust his feet quick enough, joke defending of Crouch against Stoke when he was the only danger to watch, non effective defending at LB against West Brom and West Ham meaning 2 goals from crosses his side in the first 20 mine of each game. These are just some off the top of my head, but there always seems to be stupid things he does, only highlighting he's never prem class. Age only compounds that further.

For HR to make him captain, meaning he'll not only always play, but also be the one calling the shots at the back was the worst decision he made imo.

Desire and heart but not enough brain. Will happen again and again. Not good enough, he is an accident waiting to happen. I like his personality but that´s not enough.

If other people defensively done their jobs right then Clint wouldn't need to charge to close down players. There's never any pressure on the player. Not sticking up for Clint but if others done their jobs then that wouldn't happen.

I completely agree. Yesterday he was good after the goal, but mistakes by defenders will cost us. Traore made a poor decision and then Hill as well.

Hill (and Traore and other defenders) has been making poor decisions repeatedly. On numerous occasions Hill just let his man run as he wish. Somehow people just blame other players instead of Hill. For example when Bosingwa didn't put in a hard tackle near the center of the pitch and the opposition scores. All the blame was on Bosingwa even though it was Hill who let the goalscorer have space to score.

He is unable to manage fast or skillful players because of his naivety in his positioning, but the man doesn't lose aerial battles and his tackling is rather good. He will be class again in the championships because that style suits him. But in the prem, give me the choice between samba and onuoha over clint and one of them and my answer will be the former. even if samba isn't that clever, he will always stop the attack if they are running at him and he has shown quite a bit of passion

Hill needs to mark his player in the box. If the defenders are outnumbered it's understandable but if its 2vs2 Hill really needs mark his man, or at least try to. Sometimes he just stops. There is no excuse.

He's already said publically he hasn't got the legs for the premier league. IMO last season he was a rock, and won supporters and players player of the year, deservedly so. This season he hasn't been as good.
For the championship though, he would be the first name on the team sheet for me. As captain.

I have to tell you this, be prepared to be shocked.........there are some very talented players in the prem that can make fellow players look very ordinary.!!!
If Walcott does this against Man U or City, are their defenders clowns, Suarez has scored goals against most teams, so that must make most defenders in the prem comical too then.
Bale player of the year, made alot of defenders look stupid/poor and you can go on and on, it happens....... he played against Chelsea and keep 2 clean sheets, along with clean sheets against Spurs and City.

                  This.

He knows himself he probably isn't upto the PL but he doesn't pick himself does he, he is picked by the gaffer and he goes out there and gives 100% which is more than most of our team. Limited ability but exactly as Ginge says I'd have him at the back with Nedum in the Championship - decent pairing who's attributes compliment eachother very well IMO.

                    You're clearly missing the point.

There's no denying there are top players who can make others look like they aren't there. The Suarez goal could possibly be tagged this way, although, he still made it far too easy.

AS for Walcott doing that against United and them being idiots..... it was nothing to do with Walcott being good, it was all about Clint being clueless. No top defender would charge 10 - 15 yards away from their man in the box to close a player 25 yards from goal with 4 or 5 of his own team around them to deal with any threat. If he doesn't leave Walcott in massive space there is no pass, and no goal.

For you to suggest anything else is just blinkered.

Not having the legs is one thing, buyt what concerns me is his decision making. Of late it's been awful. What he did yeserday has nothing to do with age.

Should have been aware of Walcott and held his position, as the saying goes basic school boy error.

Rose tinted specs and all that..... there was no need to charge becasue others were doing their job at the time. He messed up and created the goal, nothing more, nothing less... it's nobody else's fault. This is the reason i felt the need to start the thread becasue there are so many fans on here who woin't hear a bad word said against certain players, no matter how bad they perform, and yet jump on any little thing with others just becasue they earn more. Mackie and Hill have boith been pretty much useless all season, yet some defend them like they've played like Baresi and Messi.

Yeah he did well overall but, as is the case with most defenders in the top flight, one mistake can prove costly.
