Just on Remy, release clauses are generally there to protect clubs from mega wealthy clubs like PSG, Chelsea and City turning star players heads by offering massive contracts, Messi and Ronaldo must have massive release clauses so that if a club offers say £1m per week at least Barca and real will get something back.
I just think Remy's release clause was not to protect the club, as said we were desperate, but instead to protect the player, the purpose of them has been turned on its head.

Of course it isn`t above 8 m (or the sum we paid), he wouldn“t have joined us if we had pushed it higher.

The release clause was nothing to with protecting the club but all about enticing Remy.

Come to QPR, big salary + signing on fee. If we stay up, great. If not, someone else will snap him up 5 months later with another big signing on fee.

It sounds bad now, but at the time and the situation we were in, it made sense.

          That's how I see it.

We were in no position to be able to attract a player of his quality any other way.

I was under the impression that a 'release clause' simply meant it freed a player to talk to other clubs.....but if a few clubs are interested......why would there not be a bidding war for a player of Remys quality?

10 clubs can all offer the player a contract, it's up to him where he wants to play.

Well they will have a bidding war in a way........but the war will be trying to outbid each other on the wages they'll pay him

I'm pretty certain it's not a matter of loads of clubs matching the release fee and then the player chooses.

If a club wants to sign him they will outbid each other.

i don't think so... usually the clause means that we have to accept any bid for that amount or above, any normal player is going to be more interested in maximising their slice of the total cost of signing him rather than upping the amount that the selling club receive - so we will get release fee, remy (and agent) negotiate best wages, signing on fee etc.

As i said they will try and outbid each other, but it will be what they'll pay him.....QPR will get the amount of the clause (if there is one)...If more than one club is interested Remy will be laughing all the way to the bank

It's more if we were in the scenario where we didn't want to sell him. The clause would kick in so we had to.

Really don't think that's the case, as I said below the clause is in case we refused to sell him and he didn't want to play championship football.
