Having endured another below par performance I have just watched MOTD and in particular Sunderland, what a change from the team we beat 3-1 a couple of weeks ago. Rednapp is meant to be a motivator but either he is over rated or our players are simply beyond motivation as Di Canio has certainly had more of an affect than Rednapp had even in his first few games.

To be honest I fear for us, we have no team and to be honest didn't have that when we first got promoted and that was the problem then and has been ever since. Our Championship winning side was completly built around Tarrabt to the detriment of everything else. When we got promoted, despite several on here believing differantly this was never going to be enough and we panicked buying allegedly proven prem players at the end of their careers. That failed under Warnock so we just repeated the same mistake in every transfer window, first under Hughes and then under Rednapp.

Make no mistake the whole structure of the club needs re building from the youth set up right through to the first team. Before you say the youth team are doing well, look at who they are playing against, the majority of the better teams have academies and play against each other not against the likes of us. Indeed youth football has moved into Europe and again we have been left behind. Only last week our under 21 lost 4-0 to Colchester, these are meant to be our future players, do we honestly believe they can cut it at prem or even Championship level?

Fernandes is doing the right thing with the training ground, stadium and youth set up but has made mistakes with managers, although many on here would have applauded both the appointments of Hughes and Rednapp, which shows how hard it is to get it right. Now is an important time, we are relegated and he needs to think long and hard about keeping Rednapp. He hasn't been able to change our fortunes very much and before investing more money in the same mistakes maybe trying for a younger manager, possibly from Europe such a Solskar might be the answer.

You make some excellent points - but I would not put Harry's transfer dealings in quite the same bracket - samba has been a big let down -but I don't know anyone who saw that coming, and Remy and Townsend are hardly ageing prem players at the end of their careers. On the whole, his signings have surely been superior to his predecesors? In a short time he has had to cobble togther one side out of arguably 3 pre-exisiting ones (Championship, Warnock's prem signings and Hughes).. A miracle was needed -and still is. We need to , as far as finances will allow, start all over again -preferably under Harry. He deserves a proper chance if he wants it

Fair points re Samba, Remy and Townsend, although Townsend is a loan. Need to remember he has also signed Ben Haim and Jenas who although squad players need to be able to come in and make a difference. Also rumours of interest in Bridge and Crouch who very much fit the ageing Prem player class.

Not saying its easy appointing managers or buying players but the board need to think long and hard before deciding, there are example as of success with young managers such as Swansea (twice), Swindon, Bournmouth, Palace and now Bolton with Fredman and we do need a complete over haul and maybe the older managers try to get success to early.

I don't really understand Sunderland. If you recall they were doing very badly when O'Neill came, and then for a few games they did much better. Then they started playing badly again, although there had been no great changes and finally O'Neill goes. Then de Canio comes and they start playing well again. But I wonder how long it will last.

'New manager syndrome.' Some clubs are lucky enough to get this every time they make a change, others, QPR being a case in point, couldn't buy it if they tried.
