  • Tommy Smith

Good on him enjoying another promotion. He scored the goal that clinched our promotion and the winner in our first win back in the Premier League.

I won't ever like Cardiff, especially after the way their fans looked for a fight after the play off final in '03, but I'm pleased for Tommy Smith, not to mention Heidar and Matt Connolly who were also key players in our promotion.

Bring on August and hopefully some happier days for our team!!!
First game 20.2.82 - QPR 3 Derby 0. It's been mainly downhill ever since!

That was against Wigan but yes, he was dropped next game. Says it all.

Teams like Norwich, Swansea and Saints have shown that if you stick with good Championship players you can do well.

Heider, Smith and Connolly all going up whilst we drop, should've kept Heider on the books

Great post Barney, I agree with all of that.

Best of luck Tommy - sorry you didn't get a better shake here after we got promoted. But neither NW nor MH could see what was right under their noses.

I think we are getting a bit rose tinted here. I really liked Tommy Smith and am delighted for him but don't think he is premiership quality to be honest.

I think the real question here is "were the players who replaced him any better"? I would have to say not. We discarded the players and team spirit that got us promoted and we have never recovered.

Did the players who replaced him give us the 100% he did?

Great for us on the championship, but not enough pace for the PL. Pleased he's in a promotion winning team though.

Its a good point and probably they were technically but not in terms of team spirit I agree.
